  • Publication number: 20070172180
Abstract: In certain aspects, the present disclosure provides image guides having a plurality of spaced-apart optical fibers. The fibers are spaced apart sufficiently to allow parallel pixel acquisition from at least a portion of the plurality of fibers. In some examples, the fibers are encased in a rigid matrix. The image guides are, in some examples, enclosed in a rigid material. In specific examples, the rigid material is flexible, allowing the image guide to bend or flex. Further provided are methods for fabricating such image guides. According to a particular method, fibers in an image guide are individually mobilized. A portion of the image guide is heated until the mobilized fibers obtain a plastic state. The image guide is then drawn, cooled, and axially cut. The fiber ends may be ground or polished to obtain fibers of a particular diameter or desired surface characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7009172
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing data collection within a device is disclosed. A device steers a scanning probe in a continuous, non-raster pattern across a specimen. The specimen is supported by a stage, and data is collected in response to interaction between the probe and the specimen to form a data set. Spiral scanning patterns without turnaround regions are utilized in embodiments of the present invention, both with and without rounded corners in the scanning patterns.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 4, 2004
Date of Patent: March 7, 2006
Assignee: Board of Regents of the University and Community College System of Nevada, Reno

  • Patent number: 6804399
Abstract: A method and system provides computerized high-rate image processing. Each detecting element receives electromagnetic radiation and produces an electrical detection signal according to an amount of electromagnetic radiation received on the respective detecting element. The electrical detection signals of each detection element corresponding to an assigned region of interest in the field of view. The electrical detection signals of all detecting elements assigned to the same region of interest are summed to produce an output signal.
