Patent number: 10065823Abstract: A rotary storage device is described. The device comprises a rotatable drum around which media items may be stored, and a tape reel rotatably mounted on a tape reel shaft and partially wound with tape extending from the tape reel to the rotatable drum. The device further comprises a motor coupled to both the rotatable drum and the tape reel shaft. The motor is operable to rotate in a deposit direction and in a dispense direction. The device comprises a friction clutch coupled to both the tape reel shaft and the tape reel to provide some resistance to rotation of the tape reel relative to the tape reel shaft so that the tape reel cannot rotate freely about the tape reel shaft. The device also comprises a one-way clutch coupled to the tape reel shaft to allow the tape reel shaft to rotate in the dispense direction and to prevent the tape reel shaft from rotating in the deposit direction.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2011Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Nicholas Cooke, David A. Inglis

Patent number: 10023407Abstract: A media cassette loader is described. The media cassette loader comprises a base; a media loading surface inclined at an angle to the base; and an end wall upstanding from a lower end of the media loading surface. The end wall supports media items stacked on the media loading surface. The media loading surface and the end wall are dimensioned to be accommodated within a media cassette body. This allows the media cassette body to be placed over the media loading surface when stacked with media items so that the cassette body surrounds the stacked media items.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2015Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Gardiner Arthur, Nicholas Cooke

Patent number: 8991694Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for removing at least one item of media from a rotating drum element. The apparatus includes a scraper element comprising a blade edge region locatable at an effective outer surface of a rotating drum element and a scraper element support that locates the blade edge region at a desired position at the effective outer surface responsive to a diameter of the effective outer surface. The scraper element rotates and moves laterally with respect to the support responsive to the diameter.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Nicholas Cooke, Gordon Walker

Patent number: 8480085Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for temporarily storing at least one item of media. The apparatus includes a rotatable item support member arranged to rotate about a support member axis of rotation and comprising an outer support surface. The apparatus also includes a pair of drive tape members, each arranged along a respective tape pathway, each tape pathway comprising a pathway portion in which the tape members extend in a co-operating relationship supported by said outer support surface. The outer support surface includes at least one support region that supports the tape members and an item located therebetween in a flat orientation.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2011Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Nicholas Cooke, Steven Carnegie
