  • Publication number: 20230083647
Abstract: A structure—for use in simulating radioactive contamination environments—comprises fragments encapsulated within a substrate material. The fragments comprise radioactive isotopes with moderate half-lives. To form such structures, the fragments are encapsulated within the at least one substrate material. In a method of simulating a radioactive contamination environment, multiple removable structures, such as the aforementioned structures, are selectively placed in a facility, and may be subsequently removed, stored, and reused.

  • Patent number: 11276508
Abstract: Surrogate materials are in the form of solid particles that include surrogate isotopes, namely, short-lived isotopes selected and formed to serve as surrogates for the radioactive materials of a nuclear fallout without including isotopes that are, or that decay to, biologically or environmentally deleterious and persistent isotopes. The surrogate material may be formed using high-purity reactant material and irradiation and separation techniques that enable tailoring of the isotopes and ratios thereof included in the surrogate material, and the surrogate material may be dispersed, e.g., in a training environment, in solid form.

  • Patent number: 8664150
Abstract: Methods of producing a metal oxide are disclosed. The method comprises dissolving a metal salt in a reaction solvent to form a metal salt/reaction solvent solution. The metal salt is converted to a metal oxide and a caustic solution is added to the metal oxide/reaction solvent solution to adjust the pH of the metal oxide/reaction solvent solution to less than approximately 7.0. The metal oxide is precipitated and recovered. A method of producing adsorption media including the metal oxide is also disclosed, as is a precursor of an active component including particles of a metal oxide.
