  • Patent number: 5102273
Abstract: A bolt for attaching a first member to a second with a desired compressive force. The bolt has a cylindrical body with a threaded section on a first end and a head on a second end. The cylindrical body had a longitudinal bore which extends to a cross bore in the head. A pin located in the cross bore has a first flat surface separated from as second flat surface by a shoulder. A rod located in the longitudinal bore has a first end fixed to the cylindrical body and a second end that is located on the first flat surface. A spring acts on the pin to hold the shoulder against the rod. An input torque applied to the head causes the threads to move into threads on the second body. When the head engages the first body, further torque results in expansion or elongation of the cylindrical body. The rod freely moves in the longitudinal bore and when a predetermined elongation occurs corresponding to the depth of the shoulder on the pin, the spring moves the pin to align the second flat surface over the rod.

  • Patent number: 5078359
    Abstract: Mounting means for attaching a control module (12) to a engine to develop a uniform force that seals fluid connections of passageways therebetween. A block (10) secured to the engine (14) has a series of parallel slots (30, 30' . . . 30.sup.N) on opposite first (26) and second (28) sides of and perpendicular to a base surface (24). The block (10) has external flanges (32, 34) adjacent to the slots (30, 30' . . . 30.sup.N) that are parallel to the base surface (24). Legs (64, 64' . . . 64.sup.N) on the control module (12) which are located in the slots (30, 30' . . . 30.sup.N) have an external projections (68, 68' . . . 68.sup.N). First (40) and second (42) bars positioned on opposite sides of the block (10) engage the external flanges (32, 34) and projections (68, 68' . . . 68.sup.N). When bolts (52, 52' . . . 52.sup.

  • Patent number: 4971517
Abstract: A control system 30 for measuring the clearance "x" between the tip 26 of a blade 24 and wall 28 in a turbine engine8. A series of probes 32, 32' and 32.sup.N located in the wall 28 each have a reference orifice 52 and a sensing orifice 54. Fluid from a source flows through the reference orifices 52 into the turbine engine. This fluid flow is substantially unrestricted and as a result a fluid pressure P.sub.2 is established in a reference chamber 44. Fluid flow from the sensing orifice 54 is restricted by the relationship of the tip 26 of each blade 24 and as a result fluid pressure P.sub.2 ' is created in chamber 48. A multiplexer 62 sequentially provides transducer 92 and 94 with fluid pressure P.sub.2 from the reference chamber 44 and P.sub.2 ' from sensing chamber 48. The transducers 92 and 94 convert the pneumatic signals into electrical signals which are supplied to a computer 116.
