  • Patent number: 5958586
Abstract: Improved monodisperse spheroidal particle latices of vinyl chloride polymers, e.g., having particle sizes ranging from 0.17 to 0.8 .mu.m or from 0.5 to 1.2 .mu.m, are produced by aqueous emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer, whether in a single stage or in two stages, in the absence of surface-active agent, in the presence of at least 0.2% by weight of at least one water-soluble alkali metal or ammonium persulfate initiator, and also in the presence of at least one water-soluble auxiliary compound that is a solvent for vinyl chloride, in such amount that the solubility of vinyl chloride in the aqueous phase at 25.degree. C. at atmospheric pressure is at least 1.5 g/l.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 1995
Date of Patent: September 28, 1999
    Assignee: Elf Atochem S.A.
Inventors: Jacques Grossoleil, Patrick Kappler, Nicolas Krantz
  • Patent number: 5482995
Abstract: A grafted block copolymer having a backbone and grafts produced by monomers, the backbone consisting of sequentially distributed units wherein at least one block of the backbone is soluble in the monomer composition from which the grafts are produced and in that at-least one block of the said backbone is insoluble in the said monomer composition and the process of making such grafted block copolymer by radical grafting and radical polymerization of a monomer on the backbone are preformed.

  • Patent number: 4845153
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of conductive polymers or prepolymers and to conductive polymers or prepolymers. The process of the invention consists of reacting a polymer containing ethylenic unsaturations such as a hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene with a silane compound of formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 denotes a hydrocarbon group containing at least one heteroatom bearing mobile electrons, such as the oxygen of an ether group, andR.sub.2 and R.sub.3 denote a substituted or unsubstituted organic residue or a group R.sub.1.The polymer obtained is precipitated by the addition of a compound which is not a solvent for the polymer, and is separated from the reaction medium. The polymers obtained have an electrical conductivity which is multiplied by a factor of 10.sup.5 relative to the unmodified polymer. The present invention applies in particular in the field of the polymer industry.

  • Patent number: 4835236
Abstract: The present invention comprises a vinyl chloride copolymer consisting essentially of the copolymerization reaction product of a vinyl chloride monomer composition and at least one polyfunctional compound; said polyfunctional compound being an alkadiene of the formula:CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--(CH.sub.2).sub.x --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2in which x is a whole number from 1 to 25; said copolymer containing, in moles, from 99 to 99.99% of said monomer composition based on vinyl chloride and correspondingly from 0.01 to 1% of said polyfunctional compound and the process of making such copolymer.
