  • Patent number: 8225506
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a component, the method including the steps of: providing a component having a first portion, which first portion defines a cavity, characterized by; identifying a first frequency response of the first portion and/or the entire component, and introducing material into the cavity to achieve an adjusted frequency response of the first portion and hence a desired frequency response of the component.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 2008
Date of Patent: July 24, 2012
    Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLC
Inventors: Nigel J.D. Chivers, Keith C. Goldfinch
  • Patent number: 8100667
Abstract: A turbomachinery disc, (e.g. a fan) has a primary axis of rotation and an axial flow direction X parallel to the primary axis of rotation. The disc has an annular diaphragm extending from proximate a blade land to a free inner radius. The diaphragm is asymmetrical about a plane (P) perpendicular to the primary axis of rotation.

Date of Patent: January 24, 2012
    Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLC
Inventors: Nigel J. D. Chivers, Paul S. Topliss
  • Publication number: 20090180891
Abstract: A turbomachinery disc, eg a fan (310) has a primary axis of rotation (316) and an axial flow direction X parallel to the primary axis of rotation (316), and comprises an annular diaphragm (318) extending from proximate a blade land (312) to a free inner radius (320), characterised in that the diaphragm (318) is asymmetrical about a plane (P) perpendicular to the primary axis of rotation (316).

  • Publication number: 20090056126
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a component (110), the method comprising the steps of: providing a component having a first portion (20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 116), which first portion defines a cavity (26, 46, 66, 86, 106), characterised by; identifying a first frequency response of the first portion and/or the entire component, and introducing material (28, 48, 68, 88, 108) into the cavity to achieve an adjusted frequency response of the first portion and hence a desired frequency response of the component.

  • Patent number: 7445433
Abstract: A fan or compressor blisk for a gas turbine engine, lift fan or the like, comprises a disc having a radially outer rim, and a plurality of aerofoil blades circumferentially spaced around and extending radially outwards from the rim. The rim has a radially inward facing surface on its underside on at least one side of the disc, the radially inward facing surface having at least one indentation for reducing the cross-sectional area of the rim, in the circumferential direction of the disc, in the region of the indentation.
