Abstract: A user interface application, such as a sidebar application or web page, receives content from a set of plug-in modules. The user interface handles the display of the content and manages any user interaction with the content, thus abstracting these features from the plug-in modules. The plug-in modules may thus be device-independent and possibly used to display the same or corresponding content in other interfaces and/or other devices. One or more of the plug-in modules may also be designed to obtain and populate their content automatically based on user activity, including web browsing or interactions with documents on the local system.

Abstract: A method for providing search results includes identifying a plurality of websites relevant to a search query, generating an ordered set of search results, and sending the search results to a client device. Each respective search result includes a link to a respective website, the link including a reference to a recording function that is distinct from a function of the link to send a request to the respective website, and position information identifying a position of the respective search result in the ordered set of search results. In some implementations, the search results also include the recording function. The recording function, when executed at the client device, sends data, including the position information and website location information associated with the link in a respective search result of the ordered set of search results, to a server that is distinct from the website.

Abstract: Systems and methods for associating instant messenger events are described. In one embodiment, a first instant messenger event is identified. It may then be determined whether the first instant messenger event is associated with at least a previously indexed second instant messenger event based, at least in part, on a relevance measure.

Abstract: A user interface and a method are disclosed for viewing digital videos. Responsive to resizing a window, a video region and associated controls are resized so that they remain visible. The video image within the video region is correspondingly resized to maintain the aspect ratio. The location of the video image within the window is independent of scroll events taking place in other regions of the window.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is described for reducing the latency introduced by recording a user action. A function associated with a link initiates a transfer of recording data to a server when the user performs a predefined action, such as clicking down on a mouse button while a cursor is located over a link.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a user interface attribute are described. In one method described, a display processor receives a request to display a content display in a user interface, detects an area of the user interface comprising non-primary content, and creates a content display having an attribute, the attribute associated with the area of the user interface comprising non-primary content. Such a method may also include modifying the attribute in response to changes in the area of the user interface comprising non-primary content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for constructing a query result set are described. In one described method, a display processor or query system refreshes a first result set comprising a first plurality of article identifiers. The display processor or query system receives or creates a second result set comprising a second plurality of article identifiers. The display processor then creates a third result set based at least in part on the first result set and the second result set. The display processor may create the third result set by modifying the first result set based at least in part on the second plurality of article identifiers or by modifying the second result set based at least in part on the first plurality of article identifiers.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the unification of search results are described. In one described system, a program, such as a search engine, executing on a client device receives a search query. The search engine executes the search on a local index and receives a first result set, which is relevant to the query entered by the user. The search query is also executed against a global index. The search engine receives a second result set from the global index. Once the search engine has received both result sets, the search engine combines the result sets to create a combined result set. The search engine may cause the combined result set to be displayed or otherwise output to a user.

Abstract: Systems and methods that improve client-side searching are described. In one aspect, a system and method for receiving a search query, determining a relevant article associated with the search query, and determining a ranking score for the relevant article based at least in part on client-side behavior data associated with the relevant article is described.
