    Abstract: A telecom node (210, 310) such as a base station is configured to detect events. A low priority event may not be serious enough on its own to raise an alarm to a network management system (220, 420) managing the telecom node (210, 310). However, the low priority event can collectively have a serious impact on the network performance if the event occurs over multiple nodes (210, 310) of the network (200). When a low priority event occurs over multiple nodes (210, 310), the telecom node (210, 310) notifies the network management system (220, 420) of the event by raising an alarm so that the situation can be addressed. In a partitioned network installation, not all neighboring nodes (210, 310) are managed by a same network management system (220, 420). When the alarm is raised to the network management system (220, 420), other network management systems (220, 420) managing the neighboring nodes (210, 310) are notified of the alarm by the network management system (220, 420).

    Abstract: Cell outage within a wireless communication network is automatically mitigated. This way, neither manual operator intervention nor manual base station reconfiguration is needed to cover problematic cells. Quality of wireless services provided by the network improves when cell outage is automatically mitigated. In one embodiment, cell outage is mitigated in a wireless communication network by automatically communicating cell status messages between radio base stations or within a node that controls the radio base stations (300) indicating whether one or more cells within the network are currently disabled or expected to be disabled. The coverage area of one or more preexisting cells is modified to cover those cells which are currently disabled or expected to be disabled as indicated by the cell status messages (302). The inter-base station interface can also be used to send messages directly between the base stations indicating addition of new cells or deletion of preexisting cells.

    Abstract: An access point according to the present invention generates and broadcasts a notification message to the mobile devices serviced by an access point upon detection of a connection failure between the serving access point and a network node. The notification message controls the impact of the connection failure on neighboring cells by including redirect information that identifies one or more alternate access points for the affected mobile devices. The affected mobile devices subsequently attempt to access the access points identified by the redirect information. The notification message may also include timing information that informs the affected mobile devices when they may attempt to access an alternate access point identified by the redirect information.
