  • Patent number: 4050255
Abstract: Apparatus for shifting heavy supporting structures relative to stationary load carrying structures comprises a plurality of parallel jack rods secured to the load carrying structure. A plurality of climbing jacks adapted to operatively engage the jack rods are secured to the heavy supporting structure. The arrangement is such that the heavy supporting structure is shifted relative to the load carrying structure when the climbing jacks are operated and advance along the jack rods while the load carrying structure remains stationary. The reactive forces caused by the operation of the climbing jacks is transferred to the load carrying structure by the jack rods. A method for shifting heavy supporting structures is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3985653
Abstract: A rotary apparatus which is adapted to bring at least two media of different density into alternate contact with the apparatus surfaces, preferably for the purification of one medium, is formed by a body which is closed except for ingress and egress apertures and which has means for causing the body to rotate. In the interior the body has contact surfaces for the media. The contact surfaces are so arranged in the body that at least the medium having the greatest density is advanced therethrough at the rotation. The rotary body is a body having buoyancy of its own and is directly supported in the media of greater density inasmuch as it is adapted to rotate supported by these media and automatically to adjust itself to the levels thereof.

  • Patent number: 3979787
Abstract: For supporting bridge structures and like heavy-weight rigid structures upon displacement thereof, at more points than those giving statically determined bearing forces, the rigid structure is placed on a plurality of hydraulic jacks distributed beneath it and provided with sliding means at their upper ends facing the structure. The jacks are so coupled hydraulically in groups that the bearing force is uniformly distributed in each group independently of whether there are variations in height between those surfaces of the rigid structure which are in contact with the sliding means at the upper ends of the jacks.Upon displacement of bridge structures and like heavy-weight rigid structures supported on a plurality of sliding means distributed in groups beneath it each of the sliding means in at least one group is associated with a jack for displacement of the structure, the jacks at the sliding means in said group cooperating hydraulically at the displacement.

  • Patent number: 3945169
Abstract: A framework structure comprises longitudinal load-bearing elements and bracing elements interconnecting the load-bearing elements and intended to rigidify the structure and take up transverse forces. To this end the fastening of the bracing elements to the longitudinal elements is realized at least on one side of the structure by connections permitting a certain relative movement between the bracing elements and the longitudinal elements longitudinally of the structure. In such a framework structure as comprises longitudinal load-bearing elements and bracing elements interconnecting said load-bearing elements and serving to rigidify the structure and to take up transverse forces, the ends of the longitudinal load-bearing elements cooperate with jacks to compensate arising displacements.

  • Patent number: 3940109
Abstract: A lifting device for raising, lowering and suspending heavy loads comprises a climbing jack with alternating gripping means and a lifting element. For allowing repeated cooperation with the gripping means the lifting element consists of a plurality of outer wire elements and at least one inner wire element, where the elasticity of at least one inner wire element is greater than the elasticity of the outer wire elements. Usually, the outer wire elements are arranged in groups, with spaces between the groups.A gripping device for a lifting element passed therethrough comprises a double-acting piston within a cylinder, with a plurality of jaw elements therein. The jaw elements are wedge shaped at their side remote from the lifting element, and are held between pairs of guides formed in the cylinder for radial movement only. The piston carries correspondingly wedge-shaped elements, so that longitudinal movement of the piston results in radial movement of the jaws.
