  • Patent number: 6947770
Abstract: Retrieving a desired telephone number from a database in a mobile communication unit is facilitated by utilizing the frequency with which the user calls each telephone number stored in the database in a manner that allows the mobile communication unit to make a “best guess” of which phone number the user is seeking each time the user pushes a key while inputting a name or character string representing the person that the user wishes to call from the mobile communication unit. If the database does not include any name or character string potentially matching a desired character string entered via a keypad, the mobile communication unit automatically switches to normal phone number entry mode.

  • Patent number: 6922567
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products for identifying items of interest within a predetermined proximity of a geographic location of a user of a wireless communicator, or of geographic locations of interest to a user, are provided. A communications network carrier detects (or receives) a geographic location of (or from) a user. The distance between the detected (or received) geographic location and one or more items of interest to the user is determined. User interests are registered with the carrier (or with a third party). A determination is made whether the detected or received geographic location is within a predetermined proximity of an item associated with a registered interest to the user. If one or more items of interest to the user are within a predetermined proximity of the geographic location, the user is notified of the existence of the one or more items of interest. Additional information about each item of interest may also be provided.

  • Patent number: 5991635
Abstract: In a mobile radio-telephone system including at least one base station transmitting information to subscriber telephones indicating whether they are being called, a method comprising the steps of dividing a repetitive frame period into a number of sleep-mode slots, determining a sleep-mode slot number to be used for transmitting a call to a particular subscriber telephone using an assigned subscriber telephone number, transmitting a calling message in said determined sleep-mode slot including the assigned subscriber telephone number, repeating transmission of the calling message a number of times as determined by system loading and available capacity to transmit such calls, and transmitting an indication of the number of repeated transmissions capacity and loading currently permits.

  • Patent number: 5590416
Abstract: A cellular radiotelephone includes an antenna that is moveable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the antenna is substantially parallel to the face of the radiotelephone thereby reducing the profile of the radiotelephone. Accordingly, the radiotelephone may be easier to store in a confined space such as a shirt pocket. In the second position, the antenna is canted away from the face of the radiotelephone thereby increasing the distance between the user's head and the antenna during use. Accordingly, the electromagnetic shielding caused by the user's head is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5384844
Abstract: A radiotelephone having a hinged flip cover that protects a keypad when closed and assists the operation of the microphone when open. The key pad and display are located on the same side of the radiotelephone and a microphone and speaker are on the other side. The flip cover is hinged to a bottom edge of the radiotelephone. The hinge pivots through an angle of greater than 180 degrees. Accordingly, the hinge folds over at least a portion of the keypad when closed and unfolds to the opposite side of the radiotelephone to form an angle of less than 180 degrees with that opposite side. A microphone and antenna may be located within the flip cover.
