The network device determines a traffic dropping ratio for the forwarding path based on the first number of the packets of the sequence of packets that have been dropped on the forwarding path.

A first logical channel is established within a composite transport group, wherein the first logical channel is established over a first link associated with a first service provider to a customer premise equipment (CPE) node configured to transport packets. A second logical channel is established within the composite transport group, wherein the second logical channel is established over a second link associated with a second service provider to an optical node. Packets are received over the first logical channel. Packets are received over the second logical channel if the first logical channel experiences a fault condition, wherein switching to the second logical channel is transparent to the CPE node.

Each node along the determined shortest path is set as an explicit route object to create a bypass label switched path for the network.

    Abstract: A system includes an ingress node, an egress node, and one or more intermediate nodes. A path is formed from the ingress node to the egress node via the one or more intermediate nodes, where the path carries label distribution protocol (LDP) packets of an LDP traffic flow. One of the intermediate nodes detects traffic congestion, modifies one of the LDP packets to include an indicator of the traffic congestion, and sends the modified LDP packet towards the egress node. The egress node receives the modified LDP packet and notifies the ingress node of the traffic congestion in response to identifying the indicator of the traffic congestion within the modified LDP packet.

The system and method may further select one or more alternate trunks using a constraint-based trunk-selection algorithm. The system and method may further determine if at least one of the selected alternate trunks has sufficient priority bandwidth. In the event that one or more alternate trunks have priority bandwidths larger than the physical bandwidth of the primary path, the system and method may select an alternate trunk from the one or more alternate trunks having priority bandwidths larger than the physical bandwidth of the primary path based on a pre-determined order of priority bandwidth.
