The assembly comprises a centering catheter and a crosser dimensioned to pass through the centering catheter. The crosser has a substantially pointed tip to engage and penetrate the hardened plaque. And the crosser is dimensioned such that twisting the crosser will help to advance the crosser through the plaque.
