  • Patent number: 9565220
Abstract: Systems and methods for preventing fraud in an IP based telephony system include noting when an IP based telephony device sent to a new customer is not installed and registered with the system. If a new customer never attempts to register a device which was sent to the new customer, the system will assume that the new customer submitted false or erroneous address information. A new customer is prevented from taking any actions that would result in new charges until the new customer has registered an IP device sent to the new customer. Likewise, the system will act to prevent a phone verification service from reaching a new customer at his newly assigned telephone number until after the new customer has registered an IP based telephony device sent to the new customer.

  • Patent number: 9210225
Abstract: A method of dynamic server assignment in a VoIP network includes detecting a telecommunication device on the VoIP network and querying a geo-location server for geographic information related to the telecommunication device's location and receiving the geographic information. Based on the geographic information a server assignment is determined. A configuration file for the telecommunication device including the server assignment and location is created and the configuration is provided to the telecommunication device over the network. The configuration file may also include features related to local customs or practice.

  • Patent number: 9154317
Abstract: A system and method for making a VoIP-based and other types of group calls includes a user interface adapted for use by a group call administrator via the Internet, a database manager connected to the user interface, and a database connected to the database manager. In one embodiment, the group call administrator identifier and one or more group call invitee identifiers is a telephone number. The server responds to a group call request by initiating a first group call connection and initiating at least one or more second group call connections to join a group call administrator and at least one group call invitee. A method includes using call information from a database to initiate conference call connections and an administrator call connection to facilitate a conference call in which the administrators call connections and the participants connections are joined to allow communications between the participants and the administrator.

  • Publication number: 20150092567
Abstract: The present technology is directed to systems and methods for integrating route and rank information into call detail records. The system receives information relating to a communication that is established between a first communication device and a second communication device. The information includes routing information for the established communication that includes at least a route identifier and a rank identifier. The system records the received route identifier and the rank identifier in a call detail record that is generated for the established communication. The route and rank information may be analyzed to for various purposes including troubleshooting and quality improvement.

  • Publication number: 20150063347
Abstract: Methods of addressing problems in a voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) telephony system include collecting data on network events, analyzing the data, and taking corrective action when possible. If an IP telephony device is registering with the VOIP telephony system more frequently than necessary, which can indicate the IP telephony device is unnecessarily jumping between proxy services, the IP telephony device is instructed to re-initialize itself. If an IP telephony device sends two successive stay alive registration messages to a proxy server from different ports of a router, which can indicate that a router pinhole is closing between stay alive messages, then the IP telephony device is instructed to send stay alive registration messages more frequently. If data packet statistics indicate that an IP telephony device is experiencing a jitter problem, the IP telephony device is instructed to increase the size of a data buffer for incoming data packets.

  • Patent number: 8804558
Abstract: An Internet protocol (IP) telephony system terminates calls to certain groups of telephone numbers via multiple different telephony carriers. The IP telephony system will discontinue using a telephony carrier to terminate calls if the quality provided by the carrier falls below a threshold level. The IP telephony system includes a quality monitoring unit that determines when a particular group of telephone numbers are intrinsically impaired, such that no carrier could provide high quality when terminating calls to those numbers. In these circumstances, the IP telephony system adjusts the quality threshold to which a carrier's quality is compared when completing calls to the impaired numbers to account for the intrinsic impairment of the telephone numbers.

  • Publication number: 20120196614
Abstract: A method and system for providing unified management of communication events. The method comprises receiving a communication message in a first format, converting the communication message to a generic message, determining one or more message destinations based on a set of routing rules, determining one or more message formats based on the determined destinations, converting the generic message into a converted message, and transmitting the converted message to the one or more determined destinations. The generic message is stored in a destination agnostic format. The converted message is stored in the one or more message formats associated with the one or more determined destinations.

  • Publication number: 20090003556
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer readable medium for managing an electronic greeting in a telecommunication system are described. In some examples, a call from a subscriber is received via the telecommunication system. Descriptions of pre-recorded electronic content are played in the call. A selection of one or more items of the pre-recorded electronic content is received. An electronic greeting template is formed from the one or more items of the pre-recorded electronic content. The electronic greeting template is sent towards the subscriber via the telecommunication system, where the subscriber may then further manage the electronic greeting template as desired.
