  • Patent number: 11294578
Abstract: With omission of a duplication process of compressed data, a cache access frequency is reduced to improve throughput. A storage system includes first and second control units and a storage drive. Upon receiving a data write command, the first control unit stores data to be subjected to the write command in a first cache area of the first control unit, and stores the data in a second cache area of the second control unit to perform duplication, and upon completion of the duplication, the first control unit transmits a response indicating an end of write, performs a predetermined process on the data to be subjected to the write command, stores the data in a buffer area, reads the data stored in the buffer area, and transmits the read data to the storage drive.

  • Patent number: 11256449
Abstract: A storage system includes controllers, physical storage devices, and logical storage devices to which storage areas are assigned from the physical storage devices. The controllers each have the physical storage device being different from that of each other and the host connected thereto being different from that of each other, and are each able to access the physical storage device and the host that are not connected thereto, through another controller. Any one of the controllers has an ownership to process an access request concerning the logical storage device. At least one controller determines that the ownership is caused to be moved among the controllers, based on an index of accesses to the physical storage device that includes the storage area to be assigned to the logical storage device and an index of accesses to the host that accesses the logical storage device.

  • Patent number: 11226769
Abstract: In a large-scale storage system configured by combining a plurality of storage modules, it is possible to improve a read performance for deduplicated data. A large-scale storage system includes a first storage module and a second storage module each connected to a computing machine, the first storage module and the second storage module being connected to each other by a network, the first controller determines whether second data that is same as first data requested to be written is already stored in the second storage module when the first storage module receives a write request from the computing machine, and the first controller determines whether to store the first data in the first storage medium or to refer to the second data in the second storage module in a case in which the second data is already stored in the second storage module.

  • Patent number: 10740250
Abstract: A storage device allocates an address area of an address space to the first virtual address space in accordance with writing onto a first virtual address space. A controller manages an address area in the first virtual address space, in which address area a mapping to the real address space has been removed, as a usage prohibition area. When a use state of the first virtual address space reaches a predetermined criterion, the controller or the storage device adds new continuous address areas to the first virtual address space to expand the first virtual address space. The storage device allocates an area, in which a mapping to the first virtual address space has been removed, to the first virtual address space expanded.

  • Patent number: 10572171
Abstract: A storage system according to an aspect of the present invention includes one or more storage devices for storing write data to which a write request from a host computer is directed, and a storage controller that provides one or more volumes to the host computer. Further, the storage system manages the time when a write request is last received from the host computer for each partition within the volume. Then, the storage controller performs a deduplication process upon detecting the partition not receiving a write request for a predetermined time or more from the time when the write request is last received.

  • Patent number: 9317519
Abstract: A storage system 103 carries out first and second de-duplication processes in response to receiving a write request from a client. First, a determination is made as to whether a write target data item overlaps with any of the stored data items of a part of a stored data item group, which is a user data item group stored in a storage device 209, and if so, the write target data item is prevented from being stored in the storage device. Second, a determination is made as to whether a target stored data item, which is not finished being evaluated as to whether it overlaps with the stored data item in the first de-duplication process, overlaps with another stored data item, and if so, the target stored data item or the same data item overlapping with the target stored data item is deleted from the storage device 209.

  • Publication number: 20160004708
Abstract: A file storage stores a client file (a file from a client) in a first file system (FS), stores metadata of the client file in a backup file in a second FS, and backs up the backup file to the first FS at a backup process start time. The file storage creates consistency file management information specifying a backup file having been backed up and a client file at that time point, acquires, when a file specified by the consistency file management information is transmitted to an archive storage apparatus, data identification information for identifying the transmitted file in the archive storage apparatus, and associates the data identification information with the transmitted file.

  • Publication number: 20150331916
Abstract: A computer system including a shared file server manages the access to file data for performing access to the file data accurately and efficiently. This computer includes a plurality of first name spaces to which is assigned an access path to data stored in a storage area, and a name space to which is assigned a path corresponding to the access path and which is different from the first name spaces. When the access paths generated in different first name spaces are the same, the corresponding paths which correspond to the same access paths are changed into mutually different paths. Moreover, by assigning a path corresponding to the data to be analyzed, it is possible to efficiently access the requested data among a large amount of data. In addition, the sorting of the corresponding paths is changed according to the load of the computer storing the data.

  • Patent number: 9110909
Abstract: Time required for a file server to determine files to be migrated from a first storage region to a second storage region is reduced. A file service system coupled to the storage system for providing a first storage region and a second storage region stores identifiers of files that have been accessed by a client, in accessed file identifier information and determines the files to be migrated from the first storage region to the second storage region based on metadata of the files stored in the first storage region and the accessed file identifier information.
