Abstract: There is disclosed a new and useful taximeter which allows simple changes in tariff display conditions in various operating modes without any change or modification in circuit construction. The taximeter using a memory device removable from the taximeter body and containing lamp enabling and disabling information is capable of optionally setting tariff display conditions in respective ones of operating modes without reconstructing the circuit arrangement of the taximeter body.

Abstract: An extensible tape member is provided for measuring a voluntary angle or for measuring length of an object. The extensible tape member may be pulled out of the housing of an electronic combined protractor and calculator in measuring either angle or length. A rotatory reel which accomodates and stores the extensible tape member therein is rotated in unison with the extension of the extensible tape member from its housing. A photo sensor is provided for detecting rotation of the rotatory reel and for providing counting signals corresponding to the rotation. One of two indexes is arranged on a frame of the rotatory reel while the other of the indexes is positioned on the lower half of the housing of the electronic combined protractor and calculator. When measuring angle, the two indexes should be attached to two lines defining the angle to be measured, respectively.

Abstract: A selectable program unit is stored within a combined electronic digital scale and calculator. The selectable program unit includes three programs to obtain the area of a triangle or a circle, and the volume of a rectangular solid. Selection keys for selecting one of the stored programs are provided on the body of the combined electronic digital scale and calculator. The programs are used in conjunction with measurement results determined by an extensible tape member housed within the combined electronic digital scale and calculator. Adjusting the extensible tape member to an object to be measured obtains the measurement results regarding the object. The selective program unit may include unit conversion programs for converting the unit of centimeter to that of the Japanese foot, the inch, and the foot. The combined electronic digital scale and calculator has also conventional calculation functions responsive to actuated number and function keys formed on the body thereof.

Abstract: A spring loaded reel is provided for accommodating and storing an extensible tape member which is useful in identifying the length of an object to be measured while being pulled out of an electronic combined digital scale and calculator. A plurality of holes are provided in the body of the spring loaded reel to detect the movement of the extensible tape member. A photo detector is positioned associated with the spring loaded reel to sense the rotation of the spring loaded reel in unison with the extensible tape member and to thereby provide counting signals. The counting signals are manipulated in a processor circuit included within the electronic digital scale and calculator to identify the movement of the extensible tape member.
