  • Patent number: 6395988
Abstract: Articles and methods are provided for enclosing an elongate substrate. A container is provided which is configured to receive the elongate substrate. A first polymeric sealing material having a first softening point and a first melt viscosity is positioned in the container. A second polymeric sealing material is positioned in the container between the first sealing material and an end of the container. The second sealing material has a second softening point lower than the first softening point and a second melt viscosity lower at a defined temperature than the fist melt viscosity.

  • Patent number: 5994446
Abstract: Gels of oil-extended methacrylate-alkylene-methacrylate (M-A-M) triblock copolymers having higher glass transition temperatures than known styrene-alkylene-styrene triblock gels. The preferred M-A-M triblocks for making the new gels have polymethylmethacrylate end blocks and butadiene or ethylene/butylene mid-block, and are synthesised by methods in the public domain (inter alia Shell EP-A-0431706). Includes gels of new triblocks having end blocks of higher alkyl (e.g. isobornyl) methacrylate homopolymer or copolymers. Mixed methyl- and higher alkyl-methacrylate end blocks are preferred to reduce gel-formation problems which may arise from solubility parameter of homo-isobornylmethacrylate end blocks being too close to that of extender oil. Includes gels of new multi- (preferably penta-) block copolymers including styrene (S) blocks, e.g. M-S-A-S-M.

  • Patent number: 5952071
Abstract: Two-component curable adhesive for blocking automotive wiring bundles, the respective components preferably amine-terminated polyamide Part A, and acrylate, anhydride or epoxy Part B, being contained in separate sheets which are inter-leaved with one another. The concentration of the reactive components in the sheets is chosen to cause the adhesive to flow on initial heating and then to cure to resist further flow at elevated temperatures in service. Apparatus, kits and method for blocking cables or wire bundles using the adhesive are also claimed.

  • Patent number: 5527575
Abstract: A heat recoverable sleeve has a high recovery ratio of at least 60%. It uses a specific arrangement of recoverable fibers in one direction woven in a twill configuration with both heat stable fibers and heat recoverable fibers extending in another direction.

  • Patent number: 4680065
Abstract: A branch-off region at an end of a sleeve (2), enclosing for example a branch in a telecommunications cable, is sealed by a method which includes positioning at the end of the sleeve (2) some means for example a clip (1) or a filling piece that forms terminal conduits (3), positioning a heat-activatable adhesive (5) in the end, and activating the adhesive by a heating means such as an electrical heater.

  • Patent number: 4498938
Abstract: A cable splice, branchout or termination has a heat recovered member (30) around one or more cable portions (33) extending out of an end of the member (30). The cable portion (33) is protected from physical damage and heat by placing around it individually a metal foil member (1), preferably aluminium of thickness 150-250 microns. The metal foil member is preferably coated with a hot melt adhesive (2) and a mastic (5) at distinct locations. A pressure sensitive adhesive (4) may also be provided to help secure the foil member (1) around the cable portion (33) before recovery of the outer member (30). Apertures (44) may be provided in the foil member (1) to allow passage therethrough of hot melt adhesive provided on the inner surface of the recoverable member (30).
