  • Publication number: 20220395927
Abstract: A method and device for producing a predetermined breaking line in a vehicle interior trim part with a scanning laser beam. An actual position of the vehicle interior trim part held in a working plane relative to a laser scanning device is detected by a camera and the actual position of the predetermined breaking line is derived. A stored desired position for a scan figure corresponding to the predetermined breaking line is corrected to an actual position, whereby the predetermined breaking line is produced at a predetermined position on the vehicle interior trim part during scanning of the scan figure. A positional shift of the scan figure becomes possible because a sensor matrix with an upstream diffuser is used, which can detect transmitted components of the laser beam independently of the position of the laser beam along the scan figure.

  • Patent number: 7431328
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for introducing a predetermined break line in a multilayer airbag covering with a carrier layer, a supporting layer and a decorative layer by a laser. In order to prevent an undesirable burning of the supporting layer over a large area as a result of the occurring combustion gases, it is suggested that the carrier material is ablated by a width that is greater than the diameter of the impinging beam to facilitate the escape of the combustion gases.

  • Publication number: 20070104917
Abstract: The invention is directed to packaging comprising a multiple-layer material construction with a break line which is formed by a line-shaped, successive arrangement of blind holes separated by webs and in which the multiple-layer material construction comprises at least one layer which absorbs laser radiation and a layer which reflects this laser radiation. A radiation-absorbing layer forms the surface layer of the packaging, and the blind holes of the surface layer extend into the packaging until the reflecting layer, and the web widths are substantially constant over the depths of the blind holes so that there are abrupt jumps in material thickness along the break line, and a clearly audible noise is generated when these jumps in material thickness are overcome when the break line tears. The invention is further directed to a method for producing packaging of this kind.

  • Publication number: 20060231536
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for introducing an integrated predetermined breaking line in a planar extending article. The method is particularly suitable for introducing an invisible predetermined breaking line with a reproducible, defined tearing resistance by means of a laser in an inhomogeneous material, such as a woven material, which can serve as the decorative layer of an airbag covering. According to the invention, the laser output is controlled depending upon the amount of material along the desired predetermined breaking line.

  • Publication number: 20050105871
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for separating optical fibers by means of CO2 laser radiation, appllicable with various types and sizes of fibers with or without cladding as well as with fiber bunches and fiber components. According to the inventive method, separation is performed by means of a special impulse regime adapted to each material, whereby minuscule volumes of material are removed along a line in a sawing-like process until complete separation has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 6841034
Abstract: A device for welding a plurality of thermoplastic plastic parts (parts to be joined) forming a hollow body with an opening by a laser, comprising a vacuum holder having a vacuum chamber which communicates with a vacuum pump, is open on one side and, together with the hollow body, forms a closed chamber that can be evacuated. • Publication number: 20050000618
Abstract: In a method for joining plastic structural component parts by laser radiation, it is the object of the invention to prevent impairment of the surface quality by the falling in of material of the quality surface in thin-walled plastic structural component parts when the latter are connected to another part. A first thin-walled plastic structural component part having a quality surface is formed so as to be absorbent for the laser radiation and is welded by the transmission radiation method on a side located opposite from the quality surface to a second plastic structural component part which is transparent to the laser radiation.

  • Patent number: 6727463
Abstract: An arrangement for machining workpieces by a laser, particularly for cutting, perforating, notching, engraving, drilling and inscribing workpieces with three-dimensional structures of different sizes. The laser beam is directed to the workpiece, which is fixed on a holding device, by means of a robot-guided articulated mirror arm and a laser scanner. • Publication number: 20020190505
Abstract: An airbag cover is defined by a predetermined breaking line which is introduced into a shaped flat material in a recessed manner. The recesses are achieved by removing material by means of laser radiation. According to the invention, the flat material is provided with a barrier layer. The barrier layer, by reason of its material properties, has greater resistance to removal of material by laser action than the material of the rest of the flat material. The recesses made by removing material extend along the predetermined breaking line in the flat material up to the barrier layer. The barrier layer makes it possible to produce a predetermined breaking line by means of laser machining which allows an exact residual wall thickness of the airbag cover in the area of the predetermined breaking line, so that the tearing strength can be adjusted very accurately, which is critically important for a reliable deployment of an airbag.
