  • Publication number: 20070222814
Abstract: In an inkjet printer according to an aspect, a print head includes a nozzle and ejects ink through the nozzle. A maintenance unit performs a maintenance operation to recover an ejection state of the nozzle. A sealing unit selectively exposes and seals the nozzle. A first timer unit measures a sealing time when the sealing unit seals the nozzle. A second timer unit measures an exposing time when the sealing unit exposes the nozzle. A dryness obtaining unit obtains a dryness level of the nozzle based on the sealing time and the exposing time. A limit level storing unit stores a predetermined dryness level as a limit level. A control unit activates the maintenance unit when the obtained dryness level is equal to or above the limit level.

  • Publication number: 20060203049
Abstract: To prevent leakage of ink in an ink tank from an air inflow port formed in an ink cartridge, an accommodating section in which an ink absorbing member is disposed is provided outside the ink cartridge so that the ink absorbing member opposes the air inflow port of the ink cartridge. The accommodating section is fluidly connected to the air inflow port of the ink cartridge and formed with an atmosphere communication hole in communication with atmosphere. Thus, ink leaked out through the air inflow port can be absorbed by the ink absorbing member and air can be introduced into the ink tank for an amount corresponding to an amount of ink supplied to a recording head.

  • Publication number: 20060163803
Abstract: A feeding device including a drive roller and a driven roller opposed to the drive roller and biased toward the drive roller, such that the drive and driven rollers cooperate to feed a sheet while holding the sheet therebetween. The driven roller includes a toothed wheel portion and a contactable portion having a diameter smaller than that of the toothed wheel portion. The drive roller includes first and second portions. A radially outer end of the second portion is more distant from an axis of the drive roller than a radially outer end of the first portion. During absence of the sheet between the drive and driven rollers, the contactable portion of the driven roller is held in contact at its circumferential surface with a circumferential surface of the second portion of the drive roller, while a radially outer end of the toothed wheel portion is not in contact with a circumferential surface of the first portion. Also disclosed is an image recording apparatus including the above-described feeding device.

  • Patent number: 6196672
Abstract: A hot-melt type ink jet printer includes a nozzle head for ejecting a hot-melt type ink onto a sheet. The printer has a sheet feed passage defined by, in order from an upstream side in a sheet feeding direction, a sheet supply roller, a preheat platen, a sheet feed roller, a main platen, a cooling platen, discharge roller and a sheet discharge opening. The preheat platen and main platen have preheater and main heater, respectively, and these platen and the cooling platen are supported on a frame. A first suction port is formed between the main platen and the cooling platen and a second suction port is formed between the cooling platen and the frame. A power board and a cooling fan is provided within the frame for cooling the power board. By rotation of the cooling fan, air is introduced from the sheet discharge opening into the frame through the first and second suction ports to also cool the cooling platen and the heating platen.

  • Patent number: 6126345
Abstract: A sheet feeding device has a correction value storage memory which stores a plurality of correction values for the previously set sheet feed error of the sheet feeding mechanism. The drive-control section operates to control the sheet feed amount by one correction value which allows the feed error of the sheet feeding mechanism to be minimized, the value being selected from the correction values stored in the correction value storage memory. In such the manner, the sheet feed amount is corrected by the correction value, so that the feed error of each component of the sheet feeding mechanism can be easily corrected.

  • Patent number: 5328280
Abstract: A printer capable of printing selectively on cut sheets and webs, wherein feed paths along which the cut sheets and webs are fed by respective feeding devices are selected depending upon the type of the recording medium. The sheet driving device may include a sheet inlet through which a cut sheet is manually inserted, an automatic sheet feeder for delivering cut sheets from a sheet stacker, and a sheet feeding mechanism for feeding the cut sheet which is manually inserted or the cut sheets which are successively delivered from the automatic sheet feeder. A power transmitting mechanism and a power shut-off mechanism are provided to transmit a drive force from a single drive source to the appropriate one or ones of the web feeding device, automatic sheet feeder and sheet feeding mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5308175
Abstract: In this printer, switching between a single-sheet form feed path and a continuous form feed path occurs by rotating a paper guide when feeding the forms. When the printed single-sheet form is to be discharged onto a table, the tail end of the form is detected by a first single-sheet form sensor. Form feed is stopped for a moment, and the paper guide is rotated toward the continuous form feed path. Reverse feed of the form is resumed and continued until the tail end of the form reaches approximate center of the paper guide. The paper guide is then rotated toward the single-sheet form feed path. The tail end of the form is bent toward the table, and the form is discharged onto the table. As a result, single-sheet forms fed from a manual insertion port or from an automatic paper sheet feeder can be conveyed after finishing printing to the position where the forms are inserted in a stabilized manner without causing the forms to jam on the discharge path.

  • Patent number: 5257867
Abstract: A printer having an adjusting apparatus for adjusting a head gap between a print head and a print sheet supported on a platen, is disclosed. In such printer, at first, a carriage 1 mounting the print head 8 thereon is advanced to the print sheet 6 by eccentrically rotating a guide bar 3 passed through a slide hole 1a with a solidable lubricant therebetween through a step motor 12 until a ribbon mask 9 contacts to the print sheet 6. And a drive pulse number Nm, which is input to the step motor 12 until the ribbon mask 9 contacts to the print sheet 6 and corresponds to moving distance of the carriage 1 from a standard position O, is calculated. Further, a value Na (=N1-Nm) representing a drive pulse number for the step motor 12 corresponding to a thickness of the print sheet 6, is calculated.

  • Patent number: 4988226
Abstract: A printer has a main pin tractor unit fixedly provided interiorly of a printer housing and an auxiliary pin tractor unit detachably mounted on the printer. The auxiliary pin tractor unit is mounted in a position immediately above the main pin tractor unit so that when the axuiliary pin tractor unit is detached from the printer, the main pin tractor unit is exposed to allow a continuous print sheet to be readily loaded on the main pin tractor unit. To selectively drive the main and the auxiliary pin tractor units with a single motor, a changeover mechanism is provided.

  • Patent number: 4676675
Abstract: A media thickness compensating device for a printer which senses the thickness of each record medium, e.g., a printing sheet, mounted on a platen to maintain a proper printing gap between the record medium and a print head. In this device, sensing means including a pressure-sensitive conductive rubber member is disposed so as to be movable toward and away from the platen. The movement of the print head is compensated in accordance with the displacement of the sensing means moved from a reference position to a position where the sensing means comes into contact with the record medium to cause the resistance of the pressure-sensitive conductive rubber member to reach a predetermined reference value. Thus, the printing gap can be kept proper at all times.
