A checking unit checks whether or not a position of a user is outside the premises of an organization to which the user belongs. A first obtaining unit obtains, if it is checked that the position of the user is outside the premises, information specifying documents which are stored in a document management device disposed on the premises and which are allowed to be used by the user, instead of obtaining the content of the documents. A presenting unit presents a list of the documents. A selector selects a document from among the documents in the list in accordance with an operation of the user. A second obtaining unit obtains the content of the selected document from the document management device. A providing unit provides the obtained content of the document to an output device which outputs the content of the document.
