Abstract: A process for document registration is executed with a structured document of a file as an input. An analyzed structured document and information for document search are generated and stored in databases, respectively. A query input is analyzed, a document search index is read and a search process is executed, producing matching document identifier information and matching strings position information. Then, a corresponding analyzed structured document is read from the database based on the document identifier information, the matching information is embedded in the structured document based on the matching strings position information, and a structured document with added highlight information is generated and displayed. A document is searched from which the element information constituting a stumbling block to the search is removed, and the result of the search is displayed with highlight information added to the original structured document.

Abstract: A document search method and apparatus and a portable medium used therefor are described, in which when registering a document in a data base, the logic structures of each document to be registered are superposed one on another to generate a structure index in which the structure elements having the same position of occurrence in the document are represented by a single meta-node. At the time of document search, a mass of the meta-nodes meeting a specified structural condition is determined with reference to the structure index. A string index is searched with the meta-node identifiers as a key thereby to determine a mass of documents meeting the specified condition. As a result, a highly accurate structure-specified search is made possible on a document data base including a mass of structured documents.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for searching and displaying a structured document are disclosed. The process for document registration is executed with a structured document of a file as an input. An analyzed structured document and information for document search are generated, and are stored in data bases, respectively. A query input from an input/output unit is analyzed, a document search index is read and a search process is executed. Matching document identifier information and matching strings position information are output as the result of search. In the display process, a corresponding analyzed structured document is read from the data base based on the document identifier information matched in a document read process.
