  • Patent number: 9702543
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for controlling combustion gas output in direct steam generation for oil recovery. A direct combustion steam generator burns a fuel and an oxygen-containing gas mixture to produce combustion products including steam, CO2 and N2. Supplemental oxygen is separately supplied to the combustion steam generator to adjust the oxygen content of the oxygen-containing gas mixture during the combustion process in order to adjust the ratio of CO2 to N2 produced in the combustion products.

  • Publication number: 20170016179
Abstract: A biorefining method of processing a lignocellulosic biomass to separate lignin and hemicellulose from cellulose includes the steps of (a) reacting the biomass in an aqueous slurry having a pH less than 7, comprising a transition metal catalyst, hydrogen peroxide; and (b) separating a solid cellulose fraction from dissolved lignin and hemicellulose fractions. The method may also be used to treat cellulose and produce microcrystalline or nanocrystalline cellulose. The transition metal catalyst may be a nanoparticulate catalyst including multivalent iron, iron oxides and iron hydroxides. The nanoparticulate catalyst may be formed by oxidizing a highly reduced solution of iron, such as groundwater that has not been exposed to oxygen.

  • Publication number: 20060130654
Abstract: A method of separating water from air is provided comprising the steps of (a) contacting air having water vapour with an hygroscopic liquid mixture to produce a water rich hygroscopic liquid mixture, (b) heating at least a portion of the water rich hygroscopic liquid mixture to produce a gaseous mixture including water vapour and at least one other gaseous component, (c) condensing at least a portion of the water vapour in the gaseous mixture to produce liquid water and a depleted gaseous mixture at a first pressure, and (d) removing at least a portion of the at least one other gaseous component to maintain the first pressure below a predetermined pressure, wherein the depleted gaseous mixture is in fluid communication with the water rich hygroscopic liquid mixture. An absorber vessel is also provided for effecting the method of separating water from air.

  • Publication number: 20050260111
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing liquids from spent drilling fluid solids includes a horizontally elongate separator having an augur with a discontinuous blade. The solids are heated to drive off volatile liquids, which are then collected and condensed. An internal combustion engine may actuate a generator and the exhaust gases used as a heat source, as well as electric heating elements. The exhaust gases may be introduced into the separator directly, through a heating channel or through a hollow augur shaft. Uncondensed gases may be treated to reduce particulate and gas emissions.

  • Publication number: 20050180141
Abstract: A protection device that avoids contact between a high intensity radiation source and particulate matter such as dust and debris generated by it. The protection device comprises a housing member lined with a reflective coating and in contact with a cooling unit, at least one radiation source, at least one bend in the housing device, and an opening. Any direct route from the opening to the radiation source is eliminated by the bend, reducing the possibility that particulates will contact the radiation source. This risk can be further diminished by the inclusion of at least one fluid shield generator, such as a fan. The protection device is particularly useful for protecting white light arc lamps, while in use.
