  • Patent number: 8361913
Abstract: An elastic nonwoven composite that contains an elastic film laminated to one or more nonwoven web materials is provided. The composite is formed by passing the film through a nip to bond the film to the nonwoven web material(s). Concurrent with bond formation, apertures are also formed in the elastic film. The apertures are of a size sufficient to provide a desired level of texture, softness, hand feel, and/or aesthetic appeal to the composite without having a significant adverse effect on its elastic properties. Aperture and bond formation are accomplished in the present invention by selectively controlling certain parameters of the lamination process, such as film content, bonding pattern, degree of film tension, bonding conditions, etc.

  • Publication number: 20110302650
Abstract: Example embodiments relate to initiation of storage device scans based on a record of existing scans of the storage device. In particular, example embodiments include a mechanism that maintains a record of existing scans of the storage device including an entry for each scan initiated by one of a plurality of scanning processes. In some embodiments, the record of existing scans may then be accessed in determining whether to initiate or permit initiation of a new scan.

  • Patent number: 6550751
Abstract: A gas-liquid contactor for removing gases and particulate matter from flue gases produced by processing operations of the type carried out in utility and industrial plants. The contactor is generally an open spray absorber having a spray tower (110) whose walls (114) form a passage within the tower (110). Flue gases are introduced into the tower (110) so as to flow vertically upward or downward through the passage. Disposed within the passage are heads (116) for introducing a liquid (118) into the passage such that the liquid (118) contacts the flue gases. A portion of the liquid (118) contacts the wall (114) of the tower (110), such that the portion of the liquid (118) flows downwardly along the wall (114). The tower (110) is equipped with a deflecting device (122) disposed on the wall (114) for deflecting the portion of the liquid (118) away from the wall (114), and thereafter reintroducing the portion of the liquid (118) into the passage so as to contact the gases flowing through the passage.

  • Patent number: 6221325
Abstract: A wet flue gas desulfurization process for removing sulfur dioxide from flue gases. The process utilizes an ammonium sulfate scrubbing solution containing free dissolved ammonia as the reagent for the desulfurization process to produce ammonium sulfate as a valuable byproduct. The scrubbing solution contacts the flue gases and absorbs sulfur dioxide within an absorber of a flue gas scrubbing apparatus, and is then accumulated in a tank where the absorbed sulfur dioxide is reacted with oxygen and ammonia to produce ammonium sulfate. The scrubbing solution has a concentration of greater than 46% ammonium sulfate so as to have suspended solids of ammonium sulfate precipitate, preferably 1% to 20% suspended solids.

  • Patent number: 6055701
Abstract: An appliance for using suction to pick up liquid includes a collection container (10) with an air/liquid separator (30) arranged at a corner between two adjacent walls (13, 14) of the container and extending obliquely relative to both side walls. The separator (30) includes an inlet tube (31) which terminates in an outwardly widening outlet end portion (33) which discharges directly into the collection container (10). The inlet tube (31) and end portion (33) extend into the container (10) through an air outlet chamber (20) which is connected at an outlet opening (17) of the container (10). A filter element (40) is provided at the mouth (24) of the outlet chamber (20) and around the outlet end portion (33) of the inlet tube (31).

  • Patent number: 5319983
Abstract: Notching methods and machines are provided by this invention for preparing notches in mechanical testing specimens. The notching machines razor element for creating a notch in the specimen and mechanical actuation elements for substantially linearly contacting the razor element with the specimen in a direction which is either substantially normal to the surface of the specimen receiving the notch or substantially normal to a stress created in the specimen during testing. This actuation forms a notch without any significant residual stresses forming ahead of the notch.

  • Patent number: 4207988
Abstract: Improvements in inner and outer closures for containers are disclosed. The outer closure is characterized by a cap member having a top wall, a side wall and a base adapted for sealing to the neck of a container. Two score lines extend across the top wall with finger gripping means attached at the apex where the two score lines meet. One score line extends down the side wall to connect with a third score line near the base which extends completely around the cap. The other score line extends down the side wall to an intermediate position and diverges away and terminates a short distance from the one score line. By pulling on the finger gripping means, the entire cap member above the third score line is removed in one piece. The inner closure comprises a plastic member sealed at its periphery to the mouth of the neck and includes a vertically aligned spike-entry port and an additive port which is oriented at an angle away from the entry port.
