  • Patent number: 4240410
Abstract: A miniature surgical instrument that is particularly useful for removing ferrous foreign particles from an eye, includes a housing and a wire wound coil positioned within the housing. A magnetizable, axially elongated probe includes a first tip portion that is positioned externally of the housing and a second, body portion that is within the housing and which is surrounded by the coil. A switch is coupled to the coil and is adapted to interconnect the coil to a source of electrical energy so that when the switch means is operated the coil is energized and the probe is magnetized.

  • Patent number: 4230124
Abstract: A B-scan ultrasonoscope which can be used for scanning tissue, for example the human eye, and displays the shape and character of the tissue. The echo pulses received are converted into digital signals whose amplitudes represent the reflectivity of the tissue. The digital signals are then displayed on a color display in accordance with a desired color scale, with individual digital increments respectively representing preselected colors. Alternate increments are maintained as black, whereby the active colors are interleaved with bands of black. In this manner, tissue interfaces are more easily seen and visual acuity is improved.

  • Patent number: 4039269
Abstract: A precision metering and dispensing pump of the peristaltic type is disclosed. The pump includes a housing in which an elongated, compressible fluid extruding tube is disposed. The tube has an outlet that is adapted to be connected to the source of fluid that is to be pumped. Spaced serially along the tube and in opposition thereto are an inlet plunger, an extruder plunger and an outlet plunger all of which constitute valves and which are arranged to be displaced in such a manner as to apply compressive forces to the tube. A linear actuator is mounted on the housing and is coupled to a primary, two-part cam that is arranged to linearly displace the inlet and the outlet plungers at preselected times. Displacement of the primary cam causes the displacement of a secondary cam to the movement of which is responsive the extruder plunger. The primary cam acts on the outlet plunger which, at the beginning of the cycle is extended so as to close the tube.
