  • Patent number: 4929148
Abstract: Combination trip and throttle valve steam controls for a steam turbine include manual controls to actuate the trip mechanism and shut the turbine down and a trip/reset, with a single control to regulate the steam delivered to the turbine and to reset the trip mechanism to provide simplified and reliable controls.

  • Patent number: 4919039
Abstract: A turning gear is used to rotate a turbine rotor under conditions where it is heating up or cooling down without sufficient motive fluid to cause it to rotate. The turning gear avoid the occurence of a thermal bow. A hydraulic turning gear is disclosed for application in confined areas where a substantial force is required to provide rotation to the rotor. A booster cylinder is used to elevate low pressure fluid for use in a reduced diameter hydraulic cylinder. A ratchet wheel and pawl mechanism uses an adjustable friction force to withhold the pawl from the ratchet wheel after initial contact and further employs a stationary guide rail to reset the pawl for the next contact.

  • Patent number: 4549740
Abstract: A coupling between two shafts surrounded by a coupling guard seal assembly to prevent the leakage of fluid from out of the coupling. The coupling guard includes two coaxial closed overlapping surfaces otherwise described as inner and outer cylinders. The inner surface is formed with a groove which contains an annular gasket and notched ring. The outer surface includes circumferentially spaced apart slots which when aligned with the notches provide key ways for cam pins. When assembled the cam pins are each locked against the notched ring causing the "O" ring to elongate in the radial direction to provide an improved seal.

  • Patent number: 4437809
Abstract: Rotor turning gears for turbines selectively engage with and disengage from rotor ring gears to provide for rotation of the turbine rotor when it would otherwise cease rotation. This is to equalize the effect of thermal stresses on the rotor as it cools down from operating temperatures. The turning gear is positioned by a movable carriage and interlock. The interlock prevents inadvertent engagement of the turning gear and rotor; inadvertent steam admission to the turbine when the turning gear is engaged and assures gear mesh oil to the turning gear during turning gear engagement.

  • Patent number: 4033234
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a valve operator which may be used for controlling an inlet valve to a steam turbine. The valve operator has a trip position for rapidly closing the steam inlet valve and a reset position whereby the position of the steam inlet valve may be hydraulically controlled. The valve operator includes a manual operator and a remote powered operator. A trip relay and a reset pilot are fluidly interconnected so that the valve operator must be reset after each trip. The valve operator also includes a valve position feedback mechanism.
