    Abstract: A method is provided for treating an ethanol mixture containing a substantial amount of water comprising admixing said aqueous ethanol mixture with a hydrocarbon fraction containing a substantial amount of an aliphatic olefin having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms and contacting said admixture with an acidic ion exchange resin catalyst to convert the water in said admixture to an oxygenated organic compound.
