  • Patent number: 5909466
Abstract: The equalizer circuit for the receiver of a digital communications system is characterized in that its predictor (11) is purely recursive, its phase equalizer (12) is purely transversal, and the relative positions of those two elements are interchangeable, means for evaluating performance in terms of decision error and for causing the two elements to be interchanged in application of a criterion for evaluating the difficulty of reception, the predictor being upstream and optimized in adaptive and self-learning manner to whiten its own output while the phase equalizer (12) is downstream and optimized in adaptive manner during periods of difficult reception, whereas the predictor (11) is downstream and the phase equalizer (12) is upstream, both being optimized jointly in adaptive manner to minimize decision error between the output (d(n)) of the decision circuit (2) and its input (w(n) or y(n)) during periods of easy reception.

  • Patent number: 4564934
Abstract: An adaptive echo canceller for a full duplex transmission system comprises a cascade arrangement of an adaptive digital filter and an automatic gain control device. The AGC device receives the output signal from the adaptive digital filter and delivers the estimate of the echo signal to the receive line for subtraction. It has a multiplier receiving the output signal and a signal representative of the multiplication factor from a gain adaptation circuit. A separate gain change circuit is connected to receive the output signal from the adaptive digital filter and simultaneously modifies the tap coefficients of said filter and the multiplication factor of the AGC device in opposite directions for maintaining the output of the adaptive digital filter in a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 4184129
Abstract: A system for transmitting data between distant locations comprises a modem at each location and a communication channel, typically a telephone line, whose transfer function has a principal component whose variation is slow and a second component whose variation is faster, but whose action is lesser. A correction device is located in the modem at the output of the channel and comprises an equalization filter constructed to compensate for the principal component and a digital adaptive network having a few coefficients and a low time constant, compatible with the frequency of the second component. The coefficients of the digital network may be adapted independently of those of the equalization filter.
