    Abstract: A center armrest for rear seat backs of cars that comprises an armrest upper part and an armrest lower part that are joined together by means of a hinge located at an end face of the armrest. Within a hollow central portion of the armrest, a control mechanism is provided by which the thickness of the armrest is automatically adjusted when the armrest is swiveled down from an out-of-use position where it functions as part of the seat back into the armrest position.
