  • Publication number: 20230392974
Abstract: A method for operating a balance includes: (a) introducing an ion cloud into a weighing chamber to bring an electrostatic charge state of a weighing sample towards an electrostatic neutral state, (b) detecting the neutral state, and (c) acquiring measured values of a weighing sensor, calculating therefrom a final weighing value representing the electrostatic neutral state, and outputting the final weighing value. When the ionizer is activated, the measured values of the weighing sensor are acquired, preliminary weighing values are calculated from the measured values and the final weighing value is calculated and output after a number of preliminary weighing values have been recognized as stable. During a recognition phase, positive and negative ion clouds are alternatingly generated, and during a neutralization phase, only ion clouds of that sign are generated that, in the recognition phase, had led to the larger changes within the preliminary weighing values.

  • Publication number: 20160341643
Abstract: A method for functionally testing a measuring instrument (10) for gravimetrically determining the moisture content of a material. The method includes positioning a sample to be measured (50) on a load receiver (40), heating the sample according to a predefined monotonic heating profile, determining a weight profile of the sample by measuring at least two weight values at different times, at least one of which is measured during the heating, extracting a test value from the determined weight profile, and comparing the test value with a stored reference value. The weight profile is determined by measuring a plurality of weight values at different times during the heating, and the magnitude of the gradient of a straight line segment, which is representative of a characteristic test region (160) of the weight profile, is determined as the test value. The reference value is an expected gradient value for the sample.

  • Patent number: 7623980
Abstract: A measuring device having a sensor (2) with a signal cable (5) and a connector (6) at the cable end for transmitting a sensor signal. The measuring device further includes a data memory (9) storing sensor-specific calibration data, and an evaluation unit (3) with a port (8) for connecting the signal cable (5). The sensor signal is evaluated in the evaluation unit (3) using the calibration data. In the invention, the memory (9) is enclosed in a memory housing (10) that is separate from the evaluation unit (3) and is inseparably fixed to at least one of the signal cable (5) and the connector (6) at the cable end. The memory (9) provides calibration data to the evaluation unit (3) via a transmission channel (12), separate from the signal cable (5), for transmitting the calibration data to the evaluation unit (3).

  • Patent number: 6331683
Abstract: In a drying balance with a balance pan (3) which rests removably on the load receiver (2) of a weighing system, a radiation source (19) for warming and drying a substance on the balance pan (3), and a temperature calibrating disk (4) with at least one built-in temperature sensor (11; 21), the load receiver (2) has a vertical hole (7) into which a pin (6) on the underside of the balance pan (3) protrudes. The housing (1) of the balance has an opening (5) around the hole (7) in the load receiver (2) which is significantly larger than the diameter of the pin (6). The temperature calibrating disk (4) has a plug (8) on its underside with several contacts (9) on the outer edge, which protrudes into the opening (5) without contacting the load receiver (2). The plug (8) establishes an electrical connection with the corresponding mating contacts (10) at the opening (5). The plug (8) has three contacts (9) which are held in a synthetic material part.
