    Abstract: A method in the regulation of a pulp suspension flow through the headbox of a paper machine/board machine wherein an additional flow is introduced into the pulp suspension at different points across the width of the headbox. The concentration of the additional flow is regulated by a mixer unit which includes a displaceable distributor part such that when the mixing ratio is being regulated, the flow resistances of the component flows, of the additional flow, entering into the mixer unit are adjusted by displacing the distributor part of the mixer unit in a chamber of the mixer unit.

    Abstract: A method for removing air from a suction roll/suction cylinder and a suction roll/suction cylinder including a roll mantle, end flanges connected to the roll mantle and axle journals for revolvingly supported the roll mantle. The mantle has numerous perforations, holes or equivalent openings passing therethrough. The suction roll/suction cylinder is connected to a suction duct that passes onto the interior of the roll/cylinder and transfers a vacuum force therein. Air is drawn or sucked through the perforations into the interior of the roll mantle so as to press a paper web toward an outer face of the roll mantle. The suction roll/suction cylinder has a system of suction pipes connected with the suction duct and including at least one suction pipe into which air is guided and/or sucked from the vicinity of the inner face of the roll mantle of the roll/cylinder.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a steam and condensate coupling for a drying cylinder in a paper machine. The steam and condensate coupling includes a piston ring having a seal therein. This stationary, nonrevolving seal is pressed by means of steam pressure against the revolving axle or against a flange part or equivalent permanently connected to said axle. A piston ring is located in the coupling, which includes a face placed substantially perpendicularly to an axial direction of the cylinder, or slightly inclined from the perpendicular plane. In the coupling construction, steam pressure is passed onto the face of the piston ring, and a force is produced. By this force, the piston ring and the seal are pressed toward the revolving axle. Thereby, by means of the steam pressure, a pressure-tight joint is provided between the seal and the revolving axle.

    Abstract: A method in a drying group or groups provided with a single-wire draw in a multi-cylinder dryer of a paper machine in the draw of a web. The multi-cylinder dryer comprises drying cylinders heated by means of steam or equivalent, with the web being pressed by a drying wire against the cylinder faces of these drying cylinders. The multi-cylinder dryer has leading or lower cylinders on which the web runs outside the drying wire which is, for example, a felt. The leading cylinders or rolls are provided with holes passing through a mantle of the leading cylinders or rolls, these holes being fitted to open into an inner space of negative pressure within the leading cylinder or roll and to open, at an opposite end, into grooves provided on a mantle face of the rolls. The negative pressure inside the roll is arranged to be transmitted to the grooves provided on the outer face of the roll mantle, so that an adhesion force is applied to the web through the grooves.

    Abstract: A beam construction used in the area of single-draw of the drying wire (13) in a paper machine or the equivalent thereof is placed in proximity of the straight joint run of the drying wire (13) and the web (W) between the drying cylinder (10) and the leading cylinder (12) or roll on a sector (a) of the leading cylinder (12) or roll that is otherwise free from the drying wire (13). The beam construction comprises a static closing-suction beam (20) with no blowing members. The closing-suction beam (20) covers the drying wire (13) which runs form the drying cylinder (10) onto the subsequent leading cylinder (12) or roll, the web (W) being placed on the opposite face of said wire (13). At the inlet edges of the closing-suction beam (20) transverse seals (27,28) are placed against the drying wire (13) and the leading cylinder (12) as well as lateral seals (25, 25a) at the ends of the closing-suction beam (20).

The turbulence suppression element (16) comprises at least one sheet member and is fitted relative to the end of the suction pipe (15) in such a way that turbulence in the intake air during the suction phase is substantially prevented and that a low air pressure is thus maintained at a desired, approximately constant value on the inner surface of the roll shell along the entire roll width and the quantity of suction air is also maintained at a desired, approximately constant value through the perforated sections (14) of the roll shell.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for guiding and directing an end conduction strip of a web from a smooth-surfaced roll, such as a paper web in a press. The end conduction strip is detached from the smooth surface of the roll and further guided by utilizing a guide plate and air blowing actions. An air jet having sufficiently great impulse is directed against the end conduction strip on the roll surface. The end conduction strip is cut with the aid of this air jet and a leading edge thereof is detached by this air jet from the roll surface. The detached end conduction strip is further guided and conveyed forwardly by a transfer blowing action. This transfer blowing action is directed along the guide plate. An under-pressure field is produced in conjunction with the guide plate, by effect of the blowing action. The effect of this under-pressure field causes the end conduction strip to be further guided in a direction determined by the guide plate.

    Abstract: An improvement in apparatus for guiding a web leader from a press section to a drying section of a paper machine, the apparatus including flexible guide ropes forming a gap into which the leader is shifted, an initial air blow device for guiding the leader towards the drying wire of the drying section, a first blow member for detaching the leader from the drying wire and a second blow member for applying transversely directed air jets onto the leader to shift it into the gap formed by the guide ropes. According to the improvement, the second air blow device includes a blow member which is mounted for pivotal movement between a non-operating lateral position outside of the edge of the drying wire and an operative position in opposed relationship thereto.

    Abstract: Apparatus for increasing the turbulence of a condensate layer formed on the inner surface of a mantle of a drying cylinder for use in the drying seciton of a paper machine to improve its heat transfer characteristics include a plurality of turbulence ribs atached to the inner mantle surface by a plurality of attachment bands, each attachment band being constituted by an assembly of at least three band parts. Spring devices are associated with pairs of adjacent free ends of the band parts of each attachment band to urge the adjacent free ends away from each other. The spring devices are tensioned by tensioning devices and the turbulence ribs are attached to the bands, which are preferably evenly space throughout the axial length of the mantle, by corresponding projections and cavities.
