  • Patent number: 4014979
Abstract: A powder of boron nitride having a graphite structure is mixed with cooling additives having a shock impedance different from that of the boron nitride having a wurtzite structure being formed. The resulting mixture is placed into a protective device, said device being then placed in an explosive charge ensuring the generation of a shock wave having an intensity of not less than 100 kbar. The wurtzite-like boron nitride thus produced has a pycnometric density of 3.10 to 3.38 g/cm.sup.3, a specific surface area of not less than 10 m.sup.2 g, a temperature of transition into graphite-like boron nitride of about 700.degree. C and a refractive index less than 2.10 for red light.
