Patent number: 4809450Abstract: An ironing press comprises a heated plate (6) and an arm (5) that can be applied against an ironing board (22). The latter is mounted on a support (28) which can be moved along ramps (30) to reach a lowered position, thus making it possible to lift a sleeve-board (37) which is mounted on arms (38 and 39) in order to bring this sleeve-board substantially to the same level as the level at which the board (22) was previously located. An operating knob (41) allows the sleeve-board (37) or the board (22), as desired, to be locked in the working position or to be both released to allow their positions to be interchanged.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1987Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Walter P. Hochstrasser, Gertrud B. Roch, Yves Venturini, Olindo Baruffa

Patent number: 4768452Abstract: The needle bar (1) engaged in a pivoting cradle (2) is integral with a journal (3) connected by a connecting member (8) to a link (4) driven from the drive shaft (12) of the machine. In order to permit the head (23) of a loop holding member (25), mounted in the pedestal of the sewing machine, to engage in a loop (29) of the needle thread (27) during the ascending course of the needle (22), whatever may be its decentration, the connecting member (8) is formed by a bent extension of the crank pin of the link (4) engaged in a bore (7) of the journal (3).Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1985Date of Patent: September 6, 1988Inventors: Olindo Baruffa, Antonio Jimenez, Francis Plomb

Patent number: 4619214Abstract: The lateral displacement or oscillation of a sewing machine needle bar is controlled by a permanently installed servomotor-driven cam operated in coordination with a second similarly installed servomotor-driven cam controlling the displacement of the fabric feed dog. Manipulation of the faces on the two cams, in a synchronized manner, allows numerous stitch patterns to be achieved according to the amplitude and direction of displacement of the needle bar and feed dog pursuant to the positioning of the faces on the two cams by their respective servomotors.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1984Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Assignee: Mefina, S.A.Inventors: Olindo Baruffa, Antonio Jimenez

Patent number: 4567837Abstract: A sewing machine includes a stud carried by a journal surrounding a tubular needle bar having a lateral opening. A link connected to the journal normally drives the needle bar when the stud is engaged within the needle bar opening. A disconnecting rod within the tubular needle bar is axially displaceable and includes a ramp engageable with a control member, also within the needle bar, to drive the stud from the needle bar opening and thereby disengage the journal from the needle bar.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1983Date of Patent: February 4, 1986Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Olindo Baruffa, Antonio Jimenez

Patent number: 4490930Abstract: The frame of an ironing press has flexible abutments made of steel against which a support for roller tracks rests in order to assure a stable position for a lever arm of the press when the press is in an open or closed position. The flexibility of the abutments of the frame make it possible to maintain stable positions of the lever arm during the ironing of fabrics of usual thickness or fabrics of greater than usual thickness.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1983Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Antonio Jimenez, Olindo Baruffa

Patent number: 4307787Abstract: In order to obtain, in an electronic balance, ranges which are in a predetermined ratio, for example 1:10, there is provided a measuring arm provided with strain gauges adapted to measure the deformation of this arm when it is subjected to a constraint or force. Between the arm and a knife-edge there is disposed a measuring annulus likewise provided with strain gauges adapted to measure the deformation of this annulus when it is subjected to a weighing force. The balance is operated in such a manner that the force or mass of the weight to be measured at the moment of weighing is exerted firstly on the arm via the annulus, until the arm contacts the abutment. This determines the small measuring scale. If the weight is higher than this value, the force is subsequently exerted solely on the annulus which presents a resistance in the region of 10 times greater and determines the second measuring scale.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Norbert Raboud, Olindo Baruffa

Patent number: 4190008Abstract: A zig-zag stitch sewing machine having a laterally displaceable needle, the displacements of the needle being controlled by a cam arrangement through a linkage mechanism, the cam arrangement being actuated by one or more control members, the linkage arrangement including a pivotally mounted slider, the pivotal axis for the slider being provided on a pivotal lever so that the pivotal axis is displaceable, and a connecting rod which is pivotally connected to the mounting for the needle, the connecting rod being displaceable along the slider, means being provided for displacing the pivotal axis of the slider while its free end is immobilized in one of its terminal angular positions, whereby displacement of the end of the connecting rod along the slider causes a needle carrying bar to be displaced between two terminal decentered positions.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1978Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventor: Olindo Baruffa

Patent number: 4159005Abstract: A thread-tensioning device of a sewing machine comprises thread-squeezing plates between which the thread passes. A shaft applying pressure to the plates is subjected to the action of a transmission lever which is acted upon by a spring-urged ball which is moved by a control button along an arcuate path from adjacent the pivoting axis of the lever to near an end of the lever. The angle of the lever can be set to enable progressive setting of the thread tension for a constant spring pressure, or with variation of the spring pressure.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1976Date of Patent: June 26, 1979Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Antonio Jimenez, Olindo Baruffa

Patent number: 4036158Abstract: A sewing machine has an upper arm and a lower free arm carried by a column and two longitudinal supports disposed on either side of the free arm and connected to the base of the column. At least one of the supports is slidable laterally outwards from a position closing off the free arm to a position allowing access to the free arm under the action of a biasing spring, but is retained in the withdrawn position by a catch cooperating with an abutment on a transverse guide rod fixed on the support.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1976Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Marcel Fresard, Olindo Baruffa, Jean-Pierre Gabriel

Patent number: 3990373Abstract: A mechanism for controlling the direction and amplitude of a cloth feeder in a sewing machine comprises a cam keyed on a spindle having a control button, said cam acting on an actuating arm of a control shaft of which the angular position determines the direction and amplitude of the feeder. By turning the control button, the cam angularly sets the actuating arm and hence the stitch length. When the button is turned to a given angular position, a cam profile thereon axially displaces a sliding rod to push a sliding pinion and bring a cam profile of the pinion into contact with an eccentric protuberance of the cam. The pinion is driven by the main shaft of the machine so that in said given position of the button it axially reciprocates the cam and hence automatically modulates the direction and amplitude of the cloth feeder to execute a special stitch.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1975Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Olindo Baruffa, Norbert Raboud
