  • Patent number: 10415395
Abstract: A method is disclosed for cooling a gas turbine having a turbine, wherein a rotor, which rotates about a machine axis, carries a plurality of rotating blades, which are mounted by blade roots and extend with their airfoils into a hot gas path of the gas turbine. The rotor is concentrically surrounded by a turbine vane carrier carrying a plurality of stationary vanes, whereby the rotating blades and the stationary vanes are arranged in alternating rows in axial direction. An extended lifetime with external cooling is achieved by providing first and second cooling systems for the turbine.

  • Patent number: 9945239
Abstract: A vane carrier is provided for a compressor or a turbine section of an axial turbo machine, especially one of a gas turbine, steam turbine, compressor, expander, comprises least a first and second functional means. The first functional means is a cylinder made of a material with a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) below 1.3×10?5 [1/K]. The cylinder is provided for carrying a plurality of vanes on its inner side. The second functional means is a support structure made of a material different to and less expensive than the material of said first functional means. The support structure is provided for defining an axial and lateral position of the first functional means within an outer casing of the axial turbo machine.

  • Publication number: 20170138265
Abstract: A gas turbine is disclosed which includes a compressor, a combustor downstream of the compressor, a turbine downstream of the combustor, a heat exchanger, a first cooling fluid system and a second cooling fluid system. The first and the second cooling fluid systems are each configured and arranged to extract a cooling fluid from the compressor and to cool a part of the gas turbine using the cooling fluid. The first and the second cooling fluid systems each extend from the compressor to the heat exchanger and from the heat exchanger to the part of the gas turbine to be cooled. The heat exchanger can exchange heat from the cooling fluid in the second cooling fluid system to the cooling fluid in the first cooling fluid system. A rotor cover with a heat exchanger and methods of operation are also described.

  • Publication number: 20160177833
Abstract: Disclosed is an engine, the engine having a compressor, an expansion machine, and a shaft, the shaft having a direction of rotation. The engine includes a compressed fluid main flow path, a flow divider arranged at and fluidly connected to the compressed fluid main flow path, and a duct fluidly connecting the flow divider and components of the expansion machine. The duct is arranged such that, when the engine is operated, a fluid is guided through the duct from the flow divider towards the expansion machine components. A flow deflector device is arranged within a flow path and configured to deflect and thereby accelerate a flow therethrough directed form the flow divider towards the expansion machine components in a tangential direction, wherein the deflection can be effected into the shaft direction of rotation.
