    Abstract: A knitted fabric, a method of producing the knitted fabric and a warp knitting machine. The knitted fabric includes a first covering layer; a second covering layer; and an arrangement of pile threads formed as spacer threads between the first covering layer and the second covering layer. Each covering layer includes multiple stitch rows arranged one after another. The spacer threads have different lengths, and the spacer threads woven into each stitch row have equal lengths. The spacer threads in a first width region have a different length than the spacer threads in a second width region. For at least two adjacent stitch rows, one stitch row is connected to spacer threads of a first length in the first width region and one stitch row is connected to spacer threads of a second length in the second width region.

    Abstract: An improved heald consists of a flat material, such as tempered steel. It has closed (O-shaped) end eyelets (5, 6) which are one-piece parts of the heald body (4). An edge (10) which extends along the full length of the heald (1), is of entirely straight configuration. In contrast, the oppositely-located edge (11) consists of offset straight portions. A particularity of the heald according to the invention resides in the fact that the openings (15, 16) provided in the end eyelets (5, 6) for receiving the shaft staves are eccentrically arranged, whereby the two webs (17, 18) bordering the openings (15, 16) have unlike widths. With a reduced material input and weight a heald is obtained which, as concerns stability and possibility of utilization in existing weaving systems is at least equivalent to conventional healds.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting the performance of a drilling system for the drilling of a well bore in a given formation includes generating a geology characteristic of the formation per unit depth according to a prescribed geology model, obtaining specifications of proposed drilling equipment for use in the drilling of the well bore, and predicting a drilling mechanics in response to the specifications as a function of the geology characteristic per unit depth according to a prescribed drilling mechanics model. The geology characteristic includes at least rock strength. The specifications includes at least a bit specification of a recommended drill bit. Lastly, the predicted drilling mechanics include at least one of bit wear, mechanical efficiency, power, and operating parameters. A display is provided for generating a display of the geology characteristic and predicted drilling mechanics per unit depth, including either a display monitor or a printer.
