  • Patent number: 9340197
Abstract: A method for controlling a mild hybrid vehicle with an electric motor is provided. The electric motor is arranged to selectively output torque and to selectively operate as a generator to harvest electrical power during operation of an internal combustion engine of the mild hybrid vehicle. An interface is provided in a location accessible outside of the vehicle. The interface is configured to control non-driving movement of the mild hybrid vehicle. An input is received from a human operator via the interface. In response to the input, the vehicle moves solely under power of the electric motor of the mild hybrid vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8752526
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing uncontrolled combustions in an internal combustion engine, which occur independently of the ignition by a spark plug, wherein uncontrolled combustions are detected in the internal combustion engine (1). In order to reduce the damaging effects of the uncontrolled combustions to the internal combustion engine, the incipient uncontrolled combustion (B) is reduced after said incipient uncontrolled combustion (B) has been detected.

  • Patent number: 8332123
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for detecting a continuous ingress of fuel into the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine, that is to say oil dilution, in particular of a motor vehicle during cold starting, there is provision, in particular, for the continuous ingress of fuel to be detected by means of a lambda control. The continuous ingress of fuel is preferably determined using the outgassing of fuel from a crankcase of the internal combustion engine, wherein the depletion is based on adaptation values of the lambda control.

  • Patent number: 7987839
Abstract: The invention concerns a method to determine the composition of a fuel from the components ethanol and gasoline of an internal combustion engine, wherein the fuel is supplied to the internal combustion engine by a fuel supply unit and via two fuel distributor rails; and the exhaust gas is discharged from the internal combustion engine by two exhaust gas manifolds of a first and a second exhaust gas system, which are separated from each other, wherein the first and second exhaust gas system have in each case at least one exhaust gas probe and wherein current changes in the ethanol content of the fuel are evaluated from the signal differences of lambda signals from the exhaust gas probes. With this method, a change in the ethanol content of the fuel can be detected, and an explicit condition for a change in fuel can be derived. Moreover, with the method, errors in the fuel-mixture can be distinguished from an altered fuel composition, which takes place after the tank has been filled fueling.

  • Patent number: 7946272
Abstract: A method for determining composition of a fuel blend from a first and at least a second fuel for operating an internal combustion engine. An ignition angle of the internal combustion engine is altered and a non-intermittent fluctuation in torque, which is a function of ignition angle, and/or a non-intermittent rotational discontinuity, and/or a variable derived from the discontinuity is used as a parameter for determining the composition of the fuel blend.

  • Publication number: 20090064977
Abstract: The invention relates to a method to determine an alcohol content in the fuel of an internal combustion engine, in which the fuel is delivered to the individual cylinders of the internal combustion engine by way of a fuel supply via a fuel rail; and the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine is discharged via an exhaust gas manifold of an exhaust gas system, wherein at least one exhaust gas probe is present, and in which current changes in the alcohol content of the fuel are evaluated from the signal flow of a lambda signal of the exhaust gas probe, and said signal results from a closed-loop lambda control. With this method a change in the alcohol content of the fuel can be detected and an explicit condition for a change in fuel can be derived. Moreover with the method, fuel-mixture errors can be distinguished from a changed fuel composition after a filling of the tank (fueling).

  • Publication number: 20090064969
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the composition of a fuel blend from a first and at least a second fuel for operating an internal combustion engine. The method makes provision for the ignition angle of the internal combustion engine to be altered and for a non-intermittent fluctuation in the torque, which is a function of the ignition angle, and/or a non-intermittent rotational discontinuity and/or a variable derived from said discontinuity to be used as the parameter for determining the composition of the fuel blend. The degree of efficiency of an internal combustion engine is a function of the ignition angle. It is known that the optimal ignition angle is a function of the composition of the fuel blend. Furthermore, fuel blends which have different compositions have a different knocking limit. The knocking limit thereby denotes the ignition angle, whereat a predetermined quantity of knocking combustion occurs.

  • Publication number: 20080295574
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for the fuel analysis in an internal combustion engine, which can be operated with different fuels containing ethanol and gasoline in varying compositions, wherein the gasoline content is ascertained in the fuel. In so doing, it is possible for especially the cold starting characteristics of the internal combustion engine to be improved, because the enrichment of the fuel mixture, which is necessary to achieve this improvement, can be optimally adjusted according to the gasoline content in the fuel.
