  • Patent number: 6809710
Abstract: A circuit is disclosed for driving an OLED in a graphics display. The circuit employs a current source operating in a switched mode. The output of the current source is connected to a terminal of the OLED. The current source is responsive to a combination of a selectively set cyclical voltage signal and a cyclical variable amplitude voltage signal. The current source, when switched on, is designed and optimized to supply the OLED with the amount of current necessary for the OLED to achieve maximum luminance. When switched off, the current source blocks the supply of current to the OLED, providing a uniform black level for an OLED display. The apparent luminance of the OLED is controlled by modulating the pulse width of the current supplied to the OLED, thus varying the length of time during which current is supplied to the OLED.

  • Patent number: 6760034
Abstract: A stereoscopic display device includes a pair of OLED microdisplays in a Head Mounted Display. An emulation video signal is provided to the display device. The emulation video signal includes alternating frames of left and right video data. An enable signal is provided to the left and right displays to control when image data in the display is updated so as to update data with corresponding frame data of the emulation signal. The updating of data in the combined display is at the standard rate while the updating of data in each display is at half the standard rate.

  • Publication number: 20020044110
Abstract: The grayscale data for OLED pixels in an active matrix display is stored as digital data in static memory cells of the display. The digital data is provided to current drivers that produce a current level that is proportional to the digital data and deliver grayscale levels to the OLED. The display does not require refreshing and is written to only when the data for pixels has changed.

  • Publication number: 20010045943
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of reducing power consumption by a video display. The method employs time-based subsampling of an input video image, at a rate slower than that of conventional computer monitors. A control circuit allows frame-based, line-based and pixel-based subsampling. The slower rate is achieved by utilizing analog, digital or both analog and digital storage elements to hold the input video information for a time sufficient to prevent flicker and other degradation of the image.
