  • Patent number: 5160311
Abstract: Centrifugal separator having a discharge device for the transformation of kinetic energy of a liquid rotating in a chamber around a rotational axis to pressure energy. The device comprises an element for the discharge of liquid out of the chamber, which element has a surface (20) surrounding the rotational axis arranged to be so located in the rotating liquid body that liquid flows in a predetermined direction along and in contact with the surface (20). The discharge element forms at least one outlet channel (21), which has an inlet opening (22) located in said surface (20) and which from this inlet opening (22) extends in the flow direction. Seen in the flow direction the inlet opening (22) is delimited by two opposite side edges (23, 24) and a cross edge (25) located downstream of the side edges.

  • Patent number: 5147280
Abstract: A centrifugal separator having a device for the transformation of kinetic energy of a liquid rotating in a chamber (12) to pressure energy comprising a discharge element (17) for the discharge of liquid out of the chamber. The discharge element (17) has a surface (20) arranged to be so located in the rotating liquid body that liquid flows in a predetermined direction along and in contact with the surface (20). The discharge element (17) forms an outlet channel (19) having an inlet opening (22) located in said surface (20), and limited downstreams by a cross edge (25) from which the outlet channel (19) extends a bit essentially in said predetermined direction. An increased outlet pressure is achieved by the fact that at least two passages (27, 28) are arranged in the discharge element (17) connecting a part each of the outlet channel located at axial ends of the cross edge (25), respectively, to the chamber (12) in such a manner that liquid flows through the passages (27, 28 ).

  • Patent number: 4861329
Abstract: In the rotor of a centrifugal separator a stack of conical separation discs (4) is arranged concentric with the rotor axis. The rotor has an inlet for a dispersion and an outlet for liquid having been freed from a substance dispersed therein. In each space between adjacent separation discs (4) the disc surface from which the dispersed substance moves away as a consequence of centrifugal force during rotor operation has flow influencing members, whereas the surface of the other separation disc, situated opposite to said members, is substantially smooth. The relation (L/H) where L is the distance between adjacent flow influencing members and H is the distance between the separation discs, and the relation (1/H) where 1 is the extension of each flow influencing member along the disc surface and H is the distance between the separation discs, are larger than zero but less than 2.
