  • Patent number: 5566750
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for cooling the exhaust gases of a molten stage furnace. The method relates to furnace structures in which the shaft (3) is vertical and the exhaust gases are passed through an outlet in the furnace roof to the cooling equipment without recovering heat from the exhaust gases through the wall portions above the furnace. The exhaust gases are cooled in two stages first indirectly by a circulating mass cooler (1) and then further in a waste heat recovery boiler. In the apparatus according to the invention, the vertical shaft section above the furnace is connected to a circulating mass cooler which is connected to a waste heat recovery boiler arranged, e.g., next to the furnace and/or the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5370772
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generation of electricity by pressurized gasification of black liquor in a combined power plant. The gases produced in the gasification of black liquor are purified and introduced into a gas turbine for generating electricity. From the turbine, the gases are conducted to a waste heat boiler. High pressure steam generated in the waste heat boiler and or auxiliary boiler is introduced into a steam turbine to such an extent that the exhaust steam from the steam turbine covers the steam and heat demands of the pulp mill. The excess steam is introduced into the gas turbine or the combustor thereof for increasing the generation of electricity.

  • Patent number: 5326081
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling the exhaust gases from a molten phase furnace, such as a smelting furnace. The exhaust gases are conveyed from the furnace to a vertically extending cooling shaft disposed above the furnace, where the exhaust gases are indirectly cooled by means of a cooling gas in a circulating system. From the cooling shaft, the exhaust gases are conveyed to a waste heat boiler, where heat is recovered from the exhaust gases as saturated or superheated, pressurized steam.

  • Patent number: 4969930
Abstract: An apparatus for gasifying solid carbonaceous material in a circulating fluidized bed reactor. Particles are separated from the product gas at least in two stages so that in the first stage mainly coarser, so-called circulating particles are separated and returned to the reactor. In the second stage fine carbonaceous and ash-containing particulates are separated from the gas and are made to agglomerate at a raised temperature. Coarser particles thus received are returned to the reactor through a return duct together with circulating particles. Agglomeration is effected in a chamber where a fluidized bed composed of coarse particles is maintained. Fine particulate material and oxygen containing gas are introduced into the free upper part of the chamber so as to form a hot flame (e.g. 1200.degree. C.). The point of the flame penetrates into the fluidized bed. The ash material contained in the fine particulate material melts, and is conducted to the bubbling fluidized bed.
