  • Patent number: 11805479
Abstract: Examples described herein relate to establishing a connection between a client device and an access point (AP). The AP may receive a series of connection frames from a client device. In response to determining that the client device is unstable based on the series of connection frames, the AP may assign a simplified wireless connection configuration to the client device. Further, the AP may receive a request management frame from the client device after the simplified wireless connection configuration has been assigned to the client device. The AP may generate a customized response frame for the request management frame based on the simplified wireless connection configuration. The AP may send the customized response management frame to the client device. Finally, a reliable connection may be established between the AP and the client device based on the customized response management frame.

  • Publication number: 20230292134
Abstract: Examples described herein provide channel assignments for ranging between network devices in a network during beacon intervals. Examples described herein may assign a plurality of channels to a plurality of network devices based on a plurality of channel assignment permutations, and initiate, during beacon intervals, ranging measurements between the plurality of network devices on the plurality of channels based on each of the channel assignment permutations to generate ranging results. Examples described herein may determine whether total ranging measurements are performed for a threshold percentage of available links between the plurality of network devices on the plurality of channels, wherein the total ranging measurements include the ranging measurements based on each of the channel assignment permutations.

  • Patent number: 11683722
Abstract: Examples of techniques for handling fine time measurement ranging requests are described. In an example, an access point (AP) may receive a ranging request for initiating a Fine Timing Measurement (FTM) session. The AP may modify a channel width of a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) channel on which the AP is operating from a first channel width to a second channel width for performing the FTM session, where the second channel width is greater than the first channel width. In response to completion of an FTM burst associated with the FTM session, the AP may restore the channel width of the WLAN channel to the first channel width for performing non-FTM operations of the AP.

  • Publication number: 20230176164
Abstract: Examples described herein provide ranging by a network device during a beacon interval. Examples described herein may discover, by a network device during a first beacon interval, a plurality of APs in a network that are capable of ranging and a received signal measurement of each of the plurality of APs. Examples described herein may select, by the network device, an AP with a strongest received signal measurement among the plurality of APs, determine, by the network device, whether the selected AP is available for ranging, and based on a determination that the selected AP is available for ranging, initiate, by the network device during a second beacon interval, ranging measurements with the selected AP to generate a ranging result. Examples described herein may, based on the ranging result, resolve locations of the plurality of APs.

  • Publication number: 20230179950
Abstract: Examples described herein provide coordinated ranging between APs in a network. Examples described herein may receive, by a computing device, neighbor adjacency information for a plurality of access points (APs) in a network, and based on the neighbor adjacency information, assign, by the computing device, subsets of the plurality of APs to non-overlapping zones. Examples described herein may initiate, by the computing device for each of the non-overlapping zones, ranging measurements between the subset of APs in the zone to generate a ranging result, wherein the ranging measurements between the subsets of APs in the non-overlapping zones are performed in parallel. Examples described herein may, based on the ranging results, resolve, by the computing device, locations of the plurality of APs.

  • Publication number: 20230132828
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for uninterrupted multiple basic service set identifiers (MBSSIDs). In various embodiments, an MBSSID virtual access point (VAP) can be generated to facilitate an uninterrupted MBSSID. An access point (AP) can determine characteristics, or network properties, of VAPs associated with the AP. The AP can generate an MBSSID VAP based on the characteristics of the VAPs. An MBSSID beacon can be generated using the MBSSID VAP as a transmitted VAP (TX VAP) of the MBSSID beacon. The MBSSID VAP serves as a TX-VAP that is not subject to changes and does not need to be interrupted to have changes made to it. As the MBSSID VAP serves as a TX VAP that is not subject to changes or interruptions, the MBSSID based on the MBSSID VAP does not need to be interrupted for changes to be made to other VAPs associated with the MBSSID.

  • Patent number: 11638154
Abstract: Examples of techniques for handling fine time measurement ranging requests are described. In an example, an access point (AP) may receive a ranging request for initiating a Fine Timing Measurement (FTM) session. Responsive to determining that the client device is associated with the AP, it is determined that the ranging request is received after a threshold time from expiry of an FTM burst period of the client device. It is determined that the ranging request is within an FTM acceptance threshold of the AP. A number of consecutive unsuccessful FTM bursts between the AP and the client device is determined. In response to determining that the number of consecutive unsuccessful FTM bursts is less than an unsuccessful burst threshold of the AP, the FTM session may be initiated based on the ranging request.

  • Publication number: 20230096535
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for frame burst overlapping basic service set (OBSS) handling. In various embodiments, the disclosed methods and systems provide for synchronizing access points (APs) in the same channel. Based on the synchronizing, the APs in the same OBSS channel can determine a distribution policy for using frame bursting. Each AP can use frame bursting in accordance with the distribution policy. In various embodiments, the APs can periodically send frame burst synchronization packets. The frame burst synchronization packets can indicate respective numbers of client devices associated with each AP. Based on the frame burst synchronization packets sent by the APs, a total number of client devices using the same channel can be determined. The distribution policy for using frame bursting can be determined based on the total number of client devices.

  • Publication number: 20230092764
Abstract: Examples described herein relate to maintaining a reliable connection between a client device and an access point (AP). Based on the data frames exchanged between the AP and a client device of a plurality of client devices communicatively coupled to the AP after the client device is connected to the AP, the AP may determine whether a client device is experiencing performance issues with respect to a wireless communication feature. In response to determining that the client device is experiencing performance issues with respect to the wireless communication feature, the AP may disable the wireless communication feature for the client device. Further, the AP may continue to exchange data frames with the client device without offering the wireless communication feature. Further, the AP continues to offer the wireless communication feature to another client device of a plurality of client devices not facing the performance issue related to the wireless communication feature.

  • Publication number: 20220110084
Abstract: Examples of techniques for handling multiple fine time measurement ranging requests are described. In an example, an access point (AP) may receive a ranging request for initiating an FTM session from each client device in a set of client devices. Based on the ranging request, a plurality of burst durations, each for performing the FTM session for each client device is determined. A maximum burst duration may be determined form the plurality. If a service time for serving high priority traffic is less than the maximum burst duration, a subset of the client devices is selected for performing the FTM session, where a sum of burst durations for performing the FTM session for each client device in the subset is less than the maximum burst duration. The FTM session for each client device in the subset is initiated.
