  • Patent number: 5816694
Abstract: A lighting fixture having an integrally formed reflector for distributing a substantially square pattern of light and a light source extending along the reflector axis between first and second ends. The reflector has a side wall which includes four similarly shaped quadrants, each quadrant having four distinctly shaped sub-quadrants. Each of the four similarly shaped quadrants has a first sub-quadrant for distributing light from the light source toward a corner portion of the substantially square pattern of light, a second sub-quadrant for distributing light from the light source toward a side portion of the substantially square pattern of light, and third and fourth sub-quadrants for distributing light from the light source toward interior portions of the substantially square pattern of light.

  • Patent number: 4939629
Abstract: This luminaire comprises a metal housing surrounding an internal space and having a mouth at the front side of the housing. Within the housing is a double-ended lamp comprising a tube of transparent material and terminals at opposite ends of the tube. Also within the housing is a pair of sockets, each comprising contact structure for receiving one of the terminals and a ceramic support for supporting said contact structure. A ceramic reflector partially surrounds the tube. This ceramic reflector and the ceramic supports of the sockets constitute portions of a single integral ceramic piece that is adapted to be inserted through said mouth into said internal space as a single unit during assembly of the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 4937718
Abstract: A discharge lamp luminaire is disclosed having improved mounting means for electrical circuit components employed in the lamp ballasting circuitry. The improvement is attributable to a particular mounting bracket securing the electrical circuit component or components in place. A street lighting luminaire having such mount construction is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4902943
Abstract: A plug-in starting aid for generating high voltage pulses in the ballast circuit of high intensity discharge lamp comprises interconnected electrical components mounted in a frame of insulating material. The frame has three terminals projecting out one side and engageable in the cooperating terminals of a connector block in which the starting in may be plugged in. The terminals are also engageable by standard mating wire terminals when the starting aid is used without a connector block.

  • Patent number: 4655491
Abstract: A two-part latch comprising hinged bail and crank for latching a globe and ring assembly to a fixed housing requires no screws, rivets or similar discrete fastening means. The crank member is a rectangular link formed from a length of resilient wire having its ends butted together at a split near the middle of one side. It is inserted into a captivating recess in which a pair of side ramps and a cut-off center ramp engage opposite faces of the link and cause the portions on each side of the split to twist and snap back after passing beyond the cut-off, whereby the crank is permanently captivated in a hinged attachment.

  • Patent number: 4579226
Abstract: A carton for packaging a clamshell type luminaire comprising a paperboard box of a height accommodating the luminaire lengthwise and having a square cross-section in which the luminaire with refractor dismounted is accommodated diagonally. A diagonal locking panel filler has a face portion pressing against the rear portion of the humped bottom side of the luminaire to wedge its top side into a corner of the carton. The face portion has attached wings or side panels erected to form a right angle corner support conforming to the interior of the carton and transmitting to the carton walls the load created by the weight of the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 4472015
Abstract: A multifunction connector block for use in a luminaire to interconnect circuit components and facilitate assembly and subsequent changeouts. A plurality of similar interconnecting strips are disposed in spaced side-by-side relationship in insulating material. The strips have terminations on one side accommodating a disconnect plug for the line supply and the lamp, and on the other side accepting individual terminal connectors from ballast components. Intermediate terminations are accessible through the top of the block to a plug-in starting aid.

  • Patent number: 4234165
Abstract: Lowering and hoisting apparatus for high mast luminaires. Luminaire support ring is mounted for movement along a hollow pole by a plurality of hoist cables secured at one end to a transition plate which is located inside the pole and to which is also attached a winch cable operated by a winch at the base of the pole for raising and lowering the support ring. Both the hoist cables and the winch cable are secured to the transition plate by freely rotatable ball bearing devices to prevent the cables from twisting and tangling during the raising and lowering operations.
