  • Patent number: 4354769
Abstract: To permit acceptance of diametrically directed clamping forces of a double-acting hub-to-shaft clamping connection in which an inner ring is formed with outer conical surfaces, an outer ring formed with inner conical surfaces, and clamping or compression rings with matching conical surfaces are positioned between the conical surfaces of the inner and outer ring, a circumferentially continuous cylindrical metal ring is provided formed with a circumferential groove fitted either over (FIG. 2) the outer ring, or within (FIG. 3) the inner ring to permit application of the structure over a stub hub, or within a hollow blind recess or bore (FIG. 3) of the shaft (5).

  • Patent number: 4235573
Abstract: To permit accurate centering by means of compression rings which are pressed against conical surfaces of a tubular element inserted in the hub, and a sleeve with conical surfaces placed on the shaft, the compression rings are formed with axial centering ring extensions which, at their inner and outer surfaces engaging the hub, and the shaft, respectively, are bowed or curved in cross-section to be, for example, at least approximately part-spherical. Sequential tightening of bolts to draw the compression rings together and the respective conical surfaces over each other thus will not result in misalignment of the compression rings, or tilted or slanted bindings thereof with respect to the hub, or shaft, respectively, but insure accurate positioning of the compression rings, with the centering extensions around the shaft and within the hub.

  • Patent number: 4158403
Abstract: A tubular housing has one end closed by a cover plate and two adjoining inner conical or tapered surfaces centrally disposed therein; the innermost surface has a non-self-binding taper, while the adjacent one has a self-binding taper. The surfaces cooperate with three rings, two of which are solid rings having tapered circumferential walls arranged in the non-self-binding section, i.e., the one closed by the cover plate. Impact energy, for example due to an abrupt deceleration of a car during braking emergency or collision, is transmitted to the system via a centrally arranged shaft which is guided loosely by central bores in the rings and held against the cover plate by a compression spring. Upon impact, the shaft displaces first the split ring and, in dependence with the magnitude of the impact energy, then the other solid rings against the force of the compression spring and frictional force acting between the rings and the tapered surface of the housing.
