  • Patent number: 6558485
Abstract: A method of laser shock peening a metallic part by firing a laser on a coated laser shock peening surface of the part which has been covered with an explosive coating containing at least one explosive ingredient. Two or more explosive ingredients having different shock sensitivities may be used and the laser beam is fired with sufficient power to explode at least some amount of each of the explosive ingredients.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 2001
Date of Patent: May 6, 2003
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Otis S. Moreman, III

  • Patent number: 5067876
Abstract: A new and improved rotor blade and bladed disk assembly are disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the blade includes a curved and twisted dovetail disposed generally parallel to a sloping outer perimeter of a rotor disk which allows the dovetail to accommodate centrifugal loading of the blade through complementary dovetail slots for obtaining improved low cycle fatigue and high cycle fatique life limits and a relatively stiff blade for maintaining 2/REV margin. In an exemplary embodiment, the dovetail comprises a section of a helix and the dovetail is self retaining in the dovetail slot against axial components of centrifugal loading.

  • Patent number: 4046435
Abstract: In a gas turbine engine having a blade and mounting ring assembly adapted for rotation about a first axis including a plurality of blades mounted on said ring for rotation about a second axis and a plurality of bearing assemblies, each associated with one of said blades, an improved bearing seat is provided for seating the plurality of bearing assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4046434
Abstract: A deformable bearing seat is provided for seating a bearing assembly in a housing. The seat includes a seating surface in the housing having a first predetermined spheroidal contour when the housing is in an undeformed mode. The seating surface is deformable to a second predetermined spherically contoured surface when the housing is in a deformed mode. The seat is particularly adaptable for application to a rotating blade and mounting ring assembly in a gas turbine engine.
