  • Patent number: 4390191
Abstract: A single wheel-support arm depends integrally from the front and rear of a bicycle frame. Each arm has an integral spindle extending laterally from one side thereof adjacent the bottom which rotatably supports a bearing housing. The housing has a radial flange and the bicycle wheels have a cup-shaped hub portion arranged to be releasably secured to the flange. Spokes for the wheel are connected between an outer rim and a right angle flange on the hub. The bicycle includes a support for holding a spare wheel in horizontal position over the rear fender of the bicycle, such wheel being stabilized laterally by a cross channel provided on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4333621
Abstract: A load support is arranged to be connected to a parachute and has a center guide tube slidably receiving a landing rod. This landing rod is of a sufficient length to project beyond the lower end of the guide tube so as to engage the ground ahead of the load support. A slidable friction connection is provided between the landing rod and the load support for cushioning the landing shock of such support. Brake pads are used as the friction connection, and such brake pads are associated with adjustment apparatus comprising a rotatable holder for the brake pads and a cam and cam follower assembly which serves to adjust the compression of the brake pads on the rod upon rotation of the holder. A pinion and gear connection is provided between the holder and the support to provide the rotatable adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4326598
Abstract: A firebox, steam boiler and steam condenser are mounted in a road vehicle such as a passenger automobile. A steam powered drive member, such as a steam turbine, is operated by the steam pressure from the boiler and has drive connection with the drive axle of the vehicle. The vehicle carries a fuel bin for holding a supply of powdered fuel which is fed to the firebox. An electrical system is also associated with the vehicle to produce an auxiliary heating function for the boiler, and such electrical system includes a time control arranged to energize the heating element at a preset time. A temperature control is also provided. A water supply system for the boiler includes an auxiliary condenser to assist the main condenser in the system. Main and auxiliary reservoirs are provided to facilitate adequate storage of water in a compact arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4004557
Abstract: A cylinder for a reciprocating piston has a depending cup-like extension leading into the firing chamber, and this extension provides a mounting for a valve accomplishing both inlet of fuel and scavenging of exhaust gases. The valve has a longitudinal bore through which the fuel is admitted to the firing chamber. The top wall of the piston has a tubular baffle extending in a direction opposite from the skirt portion of the piston to protect the cylinder from solid particles.
