  • Patent number: 5992502
Abstract: For producing metallic bar stock there is first of all fabricated a primary product of substantially regularly round or angular cross-section, and this primary product is then deformed in cross-section to the final dimension corresponding to the bar stock by means of shaping. To provide for an efficient production of high-quality bar stock also in a minor quantity, the completely solidified primary product is subjected to a forging operation for a structural improvement before shaping it to the final dimension, during which forging off in one processing plane a spreading-restricted reduction of the cross-section in the range from (1.5 to 5):1 is effected.

  • Patent number: 5735154
Abstract: A method of controlling the passage of rolling stock through a continuous mill train of successive roll stands comprising rolling shafts supporting the rolls, a rolling-mill drive preceding the rolling shafts, and individual electric motor drives having a steplessly variable rotary speed connected to the rolling-mill drive to apply torque to the rolling shafts, which comprises the steps of (a) measuring a reaction force on a machine part of a respective one of the stands to obtain a physical parameter changing in dependence on the torque before and after an initial pass of a stand succeeding the one stand, and (b) controlling the rotational speed of the individual electric motor drive for the succeeding one stand in dependence on any change of the measured physical parameter.

  • Patent number: 5419675
Abstract: A simple, robust and rationally operable device for tilting rolled stock comprises a tilting head comprising a gripping device for the rolled stock, which defines a tilting axis, and a first drive for rotating the tilting head about a tilting head axis extending parallel to the tilting axis to adjust the tilting head in respective tilted positions. A lifting device supports the tilting head, and a second drive is arranged to raise and lower the lifting device to adjust the lifting device in respective lifting positions. A carriage supports the lifting device, and a third drive is arranged to displace the carriage transversely to the tilting axis to adjust the carriage in respective transverse positions. A numerical control is connected to the first, second and third drives and is arranged to receive control signal components respectively corresponding to the respective tilted, lifting and transverse positions to control the drives in response thereto to adjust the tilting of the rolled stock.

  • Patent number: 5327754
Abstract: In controlling the passage of rolled stock under little longitudinal tensile stress through a continuous rolling mill by secondary-controlled hydrostatic drives for the individual rolling stands, the rotary speeds of the hydromotors associated with the drives are controlled by adjusting their displacement volumes. To obtain a rational and dependable control method, at the beginning of the passage of the stock, all but one of the rotary speed controls for the hydromotors belonging to the stands through which the stock has passed and the stand through which the stock passes next as the passage of the stock through the stands proceeds are consecutively interrupted during the consecutive passing of the stock through the rolling stands and, therefore, at any time only the hydromotor of one of the stands, the guiding stand, is operated with an adjustable displacement volume for controlling the rotary speed at least as long as the stock passes through all the stands.
