  • Patent number: 6352795
Abstract: This invention concerns a method of increasing the available amount of acid at PAM and NAM in lead battery electrodes and still retain a short distance between the electrode surfaces. With mechanical support of PAM (for example in tubular batteries) in spite of low PAM densities it is possible to almost completely prevent the formation of mud. Spaces for acid should therefore be mechanically strong and supporting in order to retain unchanged PAM volume. In order to prevent that the porous bodies are filled with lead powder, lead sulphate or other components during manufacture, they may be impregnated with a filler material such as for example plastic or wax which is removed after forming the electrodes or after any other suitable process. The filler material may also be an inorganic salt which dissolves only at filling with acid leaving a desired porosity.

  • Patent number: 6117583
Abstract: The invention concerns a lead-acid battery having all the surfaces of all the electrodes under high pressure and their circumferences kept unchanged by support from mechanically rigid cell walls such that only the thickness of the electrodes is allowed to expand under strong resilient load during the discharge and return during charge. The pressure is 0.49-10.sup.5 -9.81-10.sup.5 Pa (0.5-10 kp/cm.sup.2), and may be obtained by separators or by springs applied to the outer sides of the cell container and may be changed for increased or decreased capacity. The construction of the tubular battery design, prevents material losses due to sludging and a long working life is obtained, since also a totally corroded lead conductor under high pressure may function as a current conductor. The rigid outer containers also allow high liquid pressure and thus a high oxygen solubility and oxygen recombination for sealed cells.

  • Patent number: 5510211
Abstract: In a bipolar acid containing battery comprising at least two cell units being divided by a dimensional stable electroconductive wall (5) which constitutes or supports the positive (6) and the negative (7) electrodes in two adjacent cells, said wall is comprised of non-electroconductive dimensional stable porous material (10) having pores (8) passing from its positive to its negative side and having said pores (8) filled with electroconductive lead, a lead alloy or a similar metal or alloy, making the electrical contact between two adjacent cell units. By the porous material (10) being non-electroconductive and dimensional stable the transformation of the metal and thus the volume increase of the metal or the alloy during working conditions are restricted, whereby the wall (5) is protected from through corrosion. The invention also concerns a method of producing an electroconductive dimensional stable partition wall (5) for a bipolar battery.

  • Patent number: 4968632
Abstract: A method and apparatus for rapid analysis of a sample medium, particularly a flowing sample medium employ light of a defined wavelength which is guided onto a luminescent layer in contact with the sample medium, the luminescent properties of the layer varying in dependence upon characteristics of the sample medium which are to be analyzed. The luminescent light is monitored by detectors, the detector signals being a measure for the characteristic of interest. For undertaking identification of a particular characteristic with very short follow-up time, even in the presence of a number of other characteristics which influence the luminescent properties, the luminescent intensity is identified for a number of different wavelength regions corresponding in number to the number of characteristics, each characteristic differently influencing the luminescent properties in at least one wavelength region.

  • Patent number: 4941526
Abstract: A heat pipe incorporating means for regulating the transfer of heat. The heat pipe consists of a condenser element, an evaporator element and an interconnecting conduit connecting these two elements together. The regulating means consists of a valve body and a valve seat which is fixedly connected to the heat pipe. To control the valve body a means made from a configuration memory alloy is provided, which alloy is arranged to alter its shape upon attainment of a predetermined temperature.

  • Patent number: 4602445
Abstract: This invention refers to a locking device (14) for a wear-parts system (1) and (2) for earth moving machines. The locking device (14) consists of a rigid lock bolt (17) connected to a lock catch (19) which is intended to prevent the lock bolt (17) falling out after it has been fitted in the lock opening (12, 13) for this purpose where it prevents the different parts (1) and (2) of the wear-part from moving relative to each other. According to this invention the lock catch (19) is designed so that it can be easily fitted in position together with the lock bolt (17) and there provide the best possible locking action. On the other hand no regard has been paid to the lock catch (19) being able to be loosened from the outside in order to remove the lock bolt (17). Instead a breaking point (29) has been provided along the fixation of the lock catch (19) in the lock bolt (17). The breaking point (29) makes it possible by means of subjecting the lock bolt (17) to forces e.g.

  • Patent number: 4573103
Abstract: A cooling device for electronic components connected to a printed circuit board (PCB) by holders comprising a heat-conductive body placed between the component and the PCB and engaging them. Heat is transferred to the PCB in this way, the PCB thus being used as a cooling system for the electronic components. The PCB may be provided with a metallic layer at its engagement surface with the heat-conductive body, or a recess can be made in the PCB so that the heat-conductive body comes into contact with a metal layer embedded in the PCB. The heat-conductive body may be firmly connected to the PCB by gluing or soldering and be connected to the holder by projections.

  • Patent number: 4252872
Abstract: An improvement in the production of tube electrodes for lead storage batteries comprising mixing a small amount (0.1 to 3 weight percent) of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with lead powder, the mixture is heated and shear stresses are applied thereto sufficient to convert substantially all of the PTFE in the mixture to fibrous form and to form a non-powdery dough. The dough is then granulated and the doughy granules about 100.mu. to 500.mu. in major dimension are used for filling tube elctrodes of a lead-acid storage battery.

  • Patent number: 4110519
Abstract: An improvement in the production of plate type electrodes for use in lead storage batteries from a dry lead powder mixture is disclosed. The lead powder is mixed with a small amount (0.1 to 3 weight percent) of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder, the mixture is heated and treated to convert substantially all of the PTFE into fibrous form. The mixture is applied to an electrode grid under conditions whereby a coherent, unitary structure is formed. A hot liquid (e.g., water) may be added to the mixture to form a paste.
