Patent number: 8307956Abstract: A wheel restraint for restraining a vehicle at a loading dock includes various features such as, a wheel chock supported by a spring loaded articulated arm with a spring that can be selectively tightened or released, a sensor that detects whether the chock is solidly against a base plate or floor, a bi-directional pivotal joint between the articulated arm and the wheel chock to ensure that the chock can sit squarely on a mating base plate, a wheel chock that meshes with a hydraulically actuated base plate, pivotal or otherwise movable backstops that prevent a wheel chock from sliding out of position, and a base plate cleaning system. The cleaning system might include a vehicle-actuated brush, fluid spray nozzles, electric heater and removable cover plates.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2007Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Jonathan Andersen, Eric Bublitz, Timothy Cotton, John A. Patent number: 7681271Abstract: A dock leveling system adapted to be disposed in a pit is disclosed. A hinge member with a hinge pin receiving area and a hinge pin disposed in the hinge member defines a center of rotation. A deck that is rotatable about the hinge pin includes a curved portion with a constant radius and a center of curvature substantially similar to the center of the hinge pin. The curved portion defines an elevation that remains constant as the deck rotates about the hinge pin.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2007Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Timothy Muhl, Brian Bender, Lisa Bender, legal representative, Mike Jehn, Pamela Pietrangelo, Michael Mitchell, Matthew Tourdot

Patent number: 7503089Abstract: A dock leveler for a truck loading dock includes a pivotal deck that is raised by an inflatable actuator. The actuator includes a pliable upper section that when inflated has a generally vertical cylindrical shape that can provide a heavy deck with substantial columnar support. The actuator also includes a relatively rigid base that is sealingly joined to the pliable upper section such that upper section and the rigid base define an inner chamber of air. A blower for inflating the actuator can be installed inside or outside the actuator. In some embodiments, a valve system reverses the airflow so that the blower can forcibly deflate and compress the actuator up against the bottom of the deck so that the area underneath the actuator can be cleaned.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Tim Muhl, Andrew Wanie, Norbert Hahn, Mark G. Petri, Pamela Pietrangelo, Reinhardt E. Sander, Jeffrey R. Schwager

Patent number: 7062814Abstract: A dock leveler for a truck loading dock includes a pivotal deck that is actuated by an inflatable column assembly. The inflatable column assembly includes a pliable tube that when inflated has a generally vertical cylindrical shape that can provide a heavy deck with substantial columnar support. The shape and orientation of the column assembly is such that the lengths of the pliable tube's seams are minimized. A pliable fabric sheet held in tension against the underside of the deck provides a generally flat, broad surface against which the pliable tube can push as the inflatable column assembly pushes the deck upward. A footed pallet underneath the pliable tube can be banded to the deck during shipment. After installation, the pallet can be readily lifted for cleaning the pit floor underneath the pallet.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2002Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Brian Bender, Grant Leum, Charles J.
