  • Publication number: 20200376905
Abstract: A soundproof tyre and a process for the production thereof. The tyre includes particular polyolefin sound absorbent foams that provide damping for noise generated in a cavity of the tyre, together with resistance to hydrolysis, poor water absorption and an unexpected thermal and mechanical stability in use conditions. The sound absorbent material is applied on at least a portion of a radially inner surface of the tyre. The portion of the radially inner surface includes an impermeable elastomeric material layer. The sound absorbent material includes a foamed polyolefin material with closed macrocells having an average size of at least 1.5 m according to ASTM D357 6.

  • Publication number: 20190092103
Abstract: The present invention relates to soundproof self-sealing tyres for vehicles wheels and to processes for the manufacture thereof. In particular, the soundproof self-sealing tyres of the invention comprise closed-cell foamed polyolefin materials, preferably with closed macrocells, optionally perforated. These noise-reducing materials surprisingly allow maintaining the sealing performance of traditional self-sealing systems, which are instead compromised in the case of conventional noise-reducing materials based on open-cell foamed polyurethanes.

  • Patent number: 6794579
Abstract: A high temperature superconducting cable includes a tubular support and a plurality of superconducting tapes. The superconducting tapes include a superconducting material enclosed in a metal covering, spirally wound onto the tubular support to form at least an electroinsulated, thermally-insulated, and refrigerated superconducting layer. The superconducting tapes also include at least a metal strip coupled to the metal covering. A process for manufacturing high temperature superconducting cables is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6730851
Abstract: A superconducting cable includes a cryogenic fluid, a superconducting conductor, and a cryostat. A layer impervious to the cryogenic fluid is provided between the superconducting conductor and the cryogenic fluid. The superconducting conductor operates in a space substantially free from fluids liquefying at a temperature greater than or equal to an operative temperature of the superconducting cable. A method for protecting a superconducting cable from formation of balloons includes isolating the superconducting conductor from the cryogenic fluid using a layer impervious to the cryogenic fluid and operating the superconducting conductor in a space substantially free from fluids liquefying at a temperature greater than or equal to an operative temperature of the superconducting cable. A current transmission/distribution network including at least one of the superconducting cables is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6444917
Abstract: The invention features a superconducting conductor for use in a preselected fluid cryogen including a composite ceramic superconducting wire having an outer surface along its length; and a sealing structure hermetically surrounding the outer surface to prevent the cryogen from infiltrating into the wire and degrading its superconducting properties, even under pressurized conditions. The superconducting conductor can be used in superconducting cabling and coil applications. The sealing structure can be formed by laminating metallic tapes to the wire, encircling at least one metallic sheet around the outer surface of the wire, welding a plurality of metallic sheets to one another to encircle the outer surface of the wire, or forming a polymer coating completely covering the outer surface of the wire.

  • Patent number: 6272730
Abstract: A process for producing a multifilamentary conductive tape of the type including a plurality of layers of a high-temperature superconducting material, incorporated in a mutually spaced relationship within a metal matrix, includes the steps of: a) submitting to plastic deformation individual metal tubes including a precursor of a superconducting material, so as to obtain a plurality of elementary tapes structurally independent from one another; b) coupling the tapes so obtained by means of a heat treatment at a temperature and for a time sufficient to establish a stable mutual connection between said tapes. The multifilamentary tape so obtained or possibly the independent tapes, are then subjected to at least one sintering step, which may be followed by one or more cycles of plastic deformation and sintering. Advantageously, the process of the invention allows to increase the fill factor of the tape, with a corresponding increase in the critical current in superconductivity conditions.
