  • Patent number: 7374740
Abstract: Phosphate rock is reacted with phosphoric acid to produce monobasic calcium phosphate. Monobasic calcium phosphate is reacted with ammonium carbonate to produce ammonium phosphate. Dibasic calcium phosphate is also produced as a by-product when monobasic calcium phosphate reacting with ammonium carbonate. The dibasic calcium phosphate is reacted with sulfuric acid to produce phosphoric acid. The phosphoric acid is used to react with phosphate rock. Ammonium sulfate or ammonium hydroxide may be used instead of ammonium carbonate. Phosphate other than ammonium phosphate can be produced if calcium phosphate is reacted with x-y to produce x-phosphate, where x is lithium, sodium, ammonium or potassium and y is carbonate, bicarbonate hydroxide or sulfate.

  • Publication number: 20070015936
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for hydrating an alpha, beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid, such as acrylic acid, in water, in the presence of a catalyst selected from carbon dioxide, a sulfur oxide, a nitrogen oxide, gaseous hydrochloric acid, an inorganic or organic base having a pKa greater than 7, to prepare a 3-hydroxycarboxylic acid such as 3-hydroxypropionic acid. Also disclosed is a process for recovering 3-hydroxypropionic acid from a solution comprising the 3-hydroxypropionic acid.

  • Patent number: 5859270
Abstract: A method of preparing a purified monoester composition is provided. The method generally involves a step of adding triglycerides to the crude monoester composition, with a follow up step of extracting into an alcohol/water phase, of the monoester to be purified. The process can be utilized to isolate and purify monoglycerides and propylene glycol monoesters, to advantage. The invention also concerns equipment for conduct of the processes, provision of preferred food additives, and provision of preferred food industry compositions.
