    Abstract: The growth of the bacterium, Burkholderia cepacia (ex Pseudomonas cepacia) CIP 1-2052 is substantially increased when it is supplied with tert-butanol (TBA) or tert-amyl alcohol (TAA) as the sole source of carbon and energy in the presence of at least one cobalt salt, at a concentration of 0.01 to 4 mg/l of medium. The bacterium is degraded to CO2 in the presence of oxygen. The inoculom produced by the process and the degradation process for these alcohols are useful for water treatment applications.
