  • Patent number: 6837042
Abstract: This system for aiding the regeneration of pollution-control means (1) that are integrated in an exhaust line (2) of an engine (3) of a motor vehicle, in which the engine is associated with means (6) for the common supply of the cylinders thereof, which means are in a form suitable for injecting fuel, during regeneration, into each cylinder in the form of at least one principal injection and at least one post-injection during the expansion phase of the cylinder, is characterized in that the supply means (6) are in a form suitable for cutting at least the principal injection of at least one of the cylinders in order to increase the oxygen content of the exhaust gases and to optimise the regeneration of the pollution-control means.

  • Patent number: 6484496
Abstract: This system is characterized in that the engine is linked to various members and to means for checking the operation of these various members in order to control the operation of the engine, these means also being designed to trigger a regeneration phase of the particle filter by combustion of the particles trapped in the latter, at the same time initiating a phase of multiple injections of fuel into the cylinders of the engine during their expansion phase, and in that the checking means comprise means for determining the particle load of the filter, which are connected a differential-pressure sensor arranged at the terminals of the filter and designed to deliver information representing the overall load of the filter, means for estimating the load of the filter in terms of residues other than the particles, and means for calculating the load of the particle filter from the overall load and from the load of other residues of the filter.

  • Patent number: 6412276
Abstract: A regeneration aid system (4) for a particulate filter integrated into the exhaust line (2) of a diesel engine of a motor vehicle, comprising means (5) for injecting fuel into at least some of the cylinders of the engine (1) during the expansion stage thereof in order to cause an increase, without any modification of engine torque as requested by the user, in the temperature of the exhaust gas therein, so that regeneration aid can be provided with respect to the filter, characterized in that the means of injection (5) are adapted in order to result in several fuel injections in calibrated amounts spread out in time during the expansion stage.

  • Patent number: 6397584
Abstract: A system for assisting the regeneration of a particle filter integrated into an exhaust line of an engine that admits air into the engine and includes a valved return that selectively closes a path that recycles exhaust gas from the engine to the engine inlet. An additive is added to fuel, the additive deposited onto the particle filter to lower the combustion temperature of the particles trapped in the filter. A control system monitors the regeneration system and triggers a regeneration phase of the particle filter by combustion of the particles trapped in the engine, at the same time initiating a phase of multiple injections of fuel into the cylinders of the engine during their expansion phase. The control system further closes the recycling path during a regeneration phase of the particle filter to enable the monitoring of the composition of the gases at the inlet of the particle filter.

  • Publication number: 20010010152
Abstract: This system is characterized in that the engine (1) is linked to various members and to means (17) for checking the operation of these various members in order to control the operation of the engine, these means also being designed to trigger a regeneration phase of the particle filter by combustion of the particles trapped in the latter, at the same time initiating a phase of multiple injections of fuel into the cylinders of the engine during their expansion phase, and in that the checking means (17) comprise means (18) for determining the particle load of the filter (7), which are connected a differential-pressure sensor (20) arranged at the terminals of the filter and designed to deliver information representing the overall load of the filter, means (18) for estimating the load of the filter in terms of residues other than the particles, and means (18) for calculating the load of the particle filter from the overall load and from the load of other residues of the filter.
