  • Patent number: 9206971
Abstract: A marine lamp includes an LED and a heat sink that removes heat from the LED. A lens assembly is associated with the LED and collects the energy from the LED and compresses the light into a high intensity beam. The beam strikes a secondary reflective surface which spreads the light into a desired output distribution. In one particular application, the desired output distribution has a ring-like distribution with a primary light beam at approximately 60 degrees from mounting surface normal.

  • Patent number: 7972029
Abstract: A surface mount LED lamp includes a central first section having a flat circular window that provides a direct view window to the source energy and having an angle equal to the total intended output viewing angle of the LED lamp thereby providing a smooth and relatively undistorted output intensity distribution. The window allows the energy from the wide angle LED source to exit the lamp with minimal distortion, creating a smooth generally cosine shaped light distribution through the intended viewing angle of the device. A second outer section has both refractive and internally reflective surfaces for the purpose of collecting the wider output angle light from the LED source thereby adding to the intensity at the outer edges of the distribution.

  • Patent number: 7766515
Abstract: A light transforming method and device that includes a lens having one or more specifically shaped surfaces designed to generate an output image by directing the appropriate amount of electromagnetic energy from a substantially collimated beam to the required regions of the output image for the purpose of recreating the output image. The lens has one or more non-imaging radiant energy distribution surfaces that is of a non-uniform. shape.

  • Publication number: 20080130309
Abstract: A light transforming method and device that includes a lens having one or more specifically shaped surfaces designed to generate an output image by directing the appropriate amount of electromagnetic energy from a pseudo-collimated beam to the required regions of the output image for the purpose of recreating the output image. An LED is collimated to produce the minimum spot size at the projection plane reasonably achievable and the pseudo-collimated light source impinges on the image shaping lens surface(s) such that the light is redistributed in correct proportion and angle to generate the predetermined output image. The image generating surface of the present invention is defined by a multitude of triangular facets that define a free-form surface shape such that when the energy distribution pattern exits the free-form surface the output image closely resembles the required output distribution pattern.

  • Publication number: 20060055182
Abstract: A safety gate assembly includes a frame which may be secured across a door opening, stairway or the like and comprises a base and two upstanding limbs and a gate. One side of the gate is connected by one or more pivotal connections to the one limb of the frame to permit pivotable movement of the gate with respect to the frame about a pivotal axis. The other side of the gate carries a latch member, which cooperates with a latch connected to the other limb of the frame. The latch defines a locked position, in which pivotable movement of the gate is prevented. The pivotal connection is constructed to permit linear movement of the gate relative to the frame in a direction parallel to the pivotal axis. The latch member cooperates with a biasing spring arranged to urge the latch member in the direction away from the said one side of the gate.

  • Publication number: 20030156819
Abstract: An optical waveguide for use in converting the distribution pattern of light from a limited output light source, such as an LED, to a substantially unlimited, rotationally symmetric distribution pattern. The optical waveguide includes a guide, a collection optic and a distribution optic. The collection optic includes both refractive and reflective portions, while the distribution optic includes a first reflective optical surface and a second refractive optical surface. The first and second optical surfaces act in combination to minimize the virtual focal region of the waveguide. The waveguide is suitable for use in a number of applications involving an outer lens or secondary optic. For instance, the waveguide may be used in the lighting unit of warning barricade device, wherein the light distributed by the waveguide is transmitted to the outside environment through a fresnel lens.
